Location: Mississippi | i have never owned a leftie but have found 2 horses that I really like but keep looking over them because they're both lefties. So, is it terribly hard to train yourself when all you have ever run was to the right first? I would also be running my gelding who is a righty so I just wonder if this would completely throw me off having one of each. Anyone run both? |

| i prefer leftys but my left eye is strong than right i can get a first barrel <did> going left but right it was up to the horse to get going right

Location: CTX | I started out on a lefty, and when I got another horse I had to remind myself in the alley which one I was on. I would sit in the alley telling myself, ok this is so and so horse so I am going right... But I found that once I turned 1st the other 2 are no problem. |

I run a leftie and rightie, Personally I like the leftie better as I have to think when I am on him - the horse that runs right I am on autopilot sometimes
Its not hard to adjust you just have to remember which one you are on - LOL |

Location: Kansas | I don't have any trouble switching back & forth. Right now all 4 of my horses are running to the right but 3 of them have done well to the left as well and I've run my boyfriend's mare who goes left. I very rarely run less than 3 horses in a jackpot so I've had to switch back & forth from left to right in the same day, but each horse needs something a little different anyway so I figure finding the correct spot at the first barrel is just part of my prep going in the alley. |

Location: MD | it really isn't that different. I'm lucky since my horses are different colors and two totally different ways to enter a gate. one is a fire breathing dragon and the other is calm and cool.
even though I know the difference I like to do something very specific to their run right before I enter. I like to quick run through how my hands will go. IE how I will run in, where my hands will be for each barrel. then I like to say their names over again like 3 times so I don't take the wrong horse to the wrong barrel! LOL... which has happened and it wasn't as disastrous as I thought it would be! |

One is less seasoned so I warm her up and pick at her more than my mare who will give me the finger if I try to pick on her at a show. |

Location: Running barrels or watching nascar | I run both and I have to ride them different as well. It gives me a challenge. As a rider myself, I probably ride better to the left than I do the right! I think it's not hard at all. Just remember which one you are on and what direction you are going lol |

Location: United States | I run a lefty and a righty. I prefer the lefty. My right side is stronger and I feel I can hustle the 2nd and third with more confidence. Only adjustment I had to make when running left is that it seems that first barrel sneaks up on you really quick so you have to pay attention to your timing. |

Glad I could provide someone with a smile today :) Seriously though, that mare is a snot. She's never gonna be the fastest thing out there, but she runs the same pattern every. single. time. No matter her draw, no matter how much she's been ridden, nothing. If all I do is walk and trot to warm her up, she's great. If I try to mess with her, she throws a temper tantrum.  |

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | Maybe you could train them to go both ways? My mare now goes both ways but is more comfortable going left. I used to run a righty and a lefty. I just made sure I had enough time between both horses to get my mind right and think about my run. It was never a problem for me. I prefer lefties over righties...but i am left handed myself and its easier for me. I wouldnt pass on a horse bc of what direction they go..you never know you may decide you like going left first. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | I've had 3 lefties in the last 20 years and I can't find my spot to save my life going to the right other than on my ratey righty mare who the harder you send her the harder she turns. Basically on her I just point in the general direction and let her save my sorry ( l ) |
