I am sharing this link with everyone here at barrel horse world because I have seen this boards strength and generosity in times of need. About three weeks ago my little cousin Chanel was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. It has spread to much so surgery is not at option at this time. She was given a very grim prognosis. My family is just broken hearing the news and praying for a miracle. if anyone can spare a few dollars, a prayer or even just a share on their social media sight we would be forever grateful!
Here is the first update her god mother posted to the go fund me site:
Chanel was admitted into Children's Hospital in Oakland on May 16th, 2015 around 4am. She was having seizures and her right side was not moving. She had swelling of the brain on the left side and blood on the right. She was scheduled for a Spinal Tap but due to the swelling of the brain they were unable to perform that procedure. On May 22nd they took a Biopsy which the Doctor stated her tissue was abnormal. Meanwhile awaiting her results, Chanel was still having seizures. On May 27th, Heather & Gerard got the worse news ever...Chanel was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Tumor Stage 4. With Chemotherapy and Radiation treatment she has a 20% chance of shrinking the Tumor and enjoying more of her precious beautiful life. Heather and Gerard are seeking other treatments and getting more opinions. They however have found a Doctor that has a clinic that specializes in Glioblastoma in Florida. Please send all your love and prayers for Chanel and her health. Any dontation to this family will be greatly apprecitated. |

Location: 31 lengths farms | We just watched a piece on 60 Minutes like maybe 2 weeks ago. They are injecting the brain tumor with a genetically modified Polio vaccine, it makes the body recognize the tumor as something it needs to fight. Apparently tumors build a "shield" of sorts so that the body's immune system doesn't recognize it as needing to be attacked. Highly successful rate of treatment on a very deadly type of cancer. Prayers being sent !!!

From everything I have heard only 3% of childhood brain tumors are glioblastomas, and regular courses of chemo or radiation have very low success rates. I believe st judes and most regualr childrens hospitals are not equipped to provide any alternative or new therapies, and at this point that is her only hope to prolong her little life while still keeping up her quality of life. they are looking into a few different treamtent centers all over the country at the moment but they ahvent made any decisions yet.
When she was admitted to the hospital at first they though she had a virus that was making her brain swell so they put her on anti-virals and steroids among other medicines to stabilize her condition and stop the seizures. Right now she is coming off of the unnecessary meds and has some symptoms that could be the tumor, or the withdrawls from the meds. While they research where to take her they have put her on a all natural balanced diet so they can hopefully get her as strong as possible before treatment and so they can figure out what is causing each sympotom.
She is on a medication now that seems to be controlling the seizures, and besides it making her sick at times she is her normal lively sweet self. She received first communion early from the church she was baptisted in as a baby last sunday. It was very touching, and great to see her feeling better. Seeing her Sunday it was hard to believe she is battling such a terrible disease. She looked like any other healthy 7 year old girl. |

| First of all, many prayers. St Jude's uses cutting edge technology which they share with other hospitals around the world. I do not think there is any place better to take her. |

Thank you for the prayers everyone!
My cousin Heather has spoken with st judes and they dont have any glioblastoma trials that would apply to Chanel. I know she has been in contact with different glioblastoma specialists through out the country. Ucsf, oakland childrens hospital and st judes have chemo and radiation treatments but the odds are not good. They were originally quoted a 20% chance she will survive 18 months with treatment. |

Its for the same type of cancer but it must be recurrent and have been treated previously with conventional mehods. The patient also has to he 18 to qualify for the trial. I did send her the link to the duke website. |
