Location: North Dakota | To wash horses for someone? A lady offered to pay me to bathe her horses and I'm not sure how much I should ask for.
ETA There's only 2 of them and she's heading out to a show tomorrow and doesn't have time.

Location: North Dakota | She had shampoo/conditioner for them. I had to leave before she got there so I'll settle up with her when she gets back from the show. $20 a horse sounds good! Just about pays for the bit I just bought lol. |

Location: SE Louisiana | I'd charge $10/horse if she is providing the stuff you use. But, I always enjoyed washing horses and hated to be paid to do something I loved doing. You can get a wide array of reactions from horses. Everything from WT* IS THAT??! to, the horse that pokes you with it's nose if you miss a spot.
Teaching a horse that water coming out of a hose is not a 'horse eating monster' is almost always funny, if you do it right.

Location: Southeast Louisiana | If all you did was bathe, I'd say $20 for both is fair. If you bathed, did manes and tails, maybe clipped them and got them ready for a show, maybe then $20 a piece. |

My last mare was NOT funny. She was 6 so I figured she'd have been bathed at some point...nope. She would panic if I even tied her in the wash rack (which is not good since it was cement). My vet had to sedate her just to wash her leg off before an injection. My horses now don't mind baths at all. Cash likes drinking out of the hose. The horses I washed for this lady were very good. The young one was kind of over it by the end but it wasn't bad. |

Location: sunny california | there is no way I would wash two horses for $20. there are a lot of things to consider. Your time from the moment you leave your place to the moment you get back and are ready for the next job. that might require you to clean up depending on what you do. plus gas and supplies. I highly doubt someone could drive and wash two horses and get back in less than two hours. If I was already washing horses and just adding two more to the list I would charge differently. I think I wqould make sure I pocketed $15 an hour |

Location: Texas | I guess it depends on your age, your spare time, how far away you are, how much of an inconvenience it is.. idk..
as a kid, I would have done it for free and then some just to get to do it. If I was at a boarding stable and had nothing to do that day and was already there, I would not charge either.. I would just do it.
If I had to drive out and do it I would probably charge something, but idk. Also depends on if we are friends or not. Some random person asking me to bathe horses I would accept money but friends helping friends out I would consider it a favor. But I have no idea what the situation is. |

Location: Texas | I think $20 a horse is fair. I would pay it if someone was getting my horses ready for a show. Now $20 a horse for someone to do a quick wash just to get the majority of the dirt and sweat off, I probably wouldn't pay that. |

I guess I'm in the wrong line of work.. Nobody EVER has paid for my drive time to/from the job. If i were needing help, I would pay for the hours worked. It's not like paying for a professional service- like a farm call charged by vets. |

Location: North Dakota | Well we both board at the same barn, so it takes me a half hour to get there from my house, but I was going anyway. It took me roughly 2 and a half hours to completely finish both horses. This isn't like a high school job or something, I'm in my 20's and have a full time job, I just happened to have a day off and she offered to pay me to do this because she didn't have time before she had to leave. It is a little bit of easy spending money so why not?

It is because it is such a small amount of work. |

Location: Home....Smiling M Farms | I'm sorry, if somebody charged me $20 to wash a horse, I'd never call them again. $10, take some $$$ off my board (since you pay this lady board), have her buy you dinner, or something like that. |

| I personally don't find it bad to pay someone $20 but that would depend on the degree of how dirty they were and if they also needed groomed, etc. if it's a quick wash and the horse wasn't that dirty than I wouldn't pay much. Just depends. I don't think it's bad! |
