I've just bought probably the nicest horse I've ever owned, and most definitely the most expensive, lol. I want to do my best to do right by him and take the best care possible, without putting him in a plastic bubble! So for those who are hauling a lot and have the high dollar horses, what is your maintenance regimen? I guess to be more specific:

1. What is your pre-race routine? (i.e magnets, BOT, etc)

2. How do you haul long distances? (i.e. do you use shipping boots, soft rides, standing wraps, etc.)

3. What do you give for performance? (i.e oxy-gen products, etc. I'm not much on these types of things but I'm definitely curious as to what others do)

4. What is your post race routine? (i.e. BOT, magnets, cold hose, poultice, etc.)

I had a pretty nice horse before this, and I already did the magnets, poultice, and things like that. But now that I'll be in the 'big leagues' (lol) I just want to see how others that haul a lot keep their high caliber horses at their best. And any other input you'd like to throw in there would be great as well! Thanks in advance!

1. What is your pre-race routine? (i.e magnets, BOT, etc)

I love my BOT on my mare. Some horses love PHT some love BOT. I would find out what your horse likes. I do BOT before a race and PHT after a race. I of course ride daily, hose off after each ride, make sure they are flexing and getting them stretched out. Regular Farrier visits, etc etc

2. How do you haul long distances? (i.e. do you use shipping boots, soft rides, standing wraps, etc.)

I wrap with cotton wraps and standing wraps. Hay bag, shavings in the trailer, water when I stop.

3. What do you give for performance? (i.e oxy-gen products, etc. I'm not much on these types of things but I'm definitely curious as to what others do)

I do Renew Gold and OXYMax. Before a race I do Oxy-Rush for an added boost.

4. What is your post race routine? (i.e. BOT, magnets, cold hose, poultice, etc.)
Cold hose, walk out, green tight liniment, wraps if it is a big show...

 1. What is your pre-race routine? (i.e magnets, BOT, etc

Light riding right before and liniment and cold hosing after rides.

2. How do you haul long distances? (i.e. do you use shipping boots, soft rides, standing wraps, etc.
Shipping boots

3. What do you give for performance? (i.e oxy-gen products, etc. I'm not much on these types of things but I'm definitely curious as to what others do
I like Oxy Boost (Plus) for race day. A good joint supplment is important as well.

4. What is your post race routine?
Depends on the horse, outside temp...... I like to ice when I can then BOT or Standing wrap for the night. I also like magnets as well.

1. What is your pre-race routine? (i.e magnets, BOT, etc)
First of all I make sure my horse is fit enough to be racing. I don't do much before a run but I do make sure they get a really god work out both mind and body.

2. How do you haul long distances? (i.e. do you use shipping boots, soft rides, standing wraps, etc.)
I do cotton wraps, BOT, soft rides, fly masks, hay in front of them at all times and shavings in the trailer wetted down.

3. What do you give for performance? (i.e oxy-gen products, etc. I'm not much on these types of things but I'm definitely curious as to what others do)
I am big on a good work out routine, mind and body and doing different things, slow work, work over poles, trail riding, breezing, trail riding, etc. I like plain old beet pulp with a mineral, salt blocks at all times, tons of fresh water, good quality hay and platinum performance. I also rinse off all sweat and rub down with linement after every sweaty ride. I am also big on good and long warm ups AND cool downs.

4. What is your post race routine? (i.e. BOT, magnets, cold hose, poultice, etc.)
I like to walk them out a bunch before getting off(I feel like some horses get lazy and used to having to do one run and that's in) I will walk out, then jump off, take boots off, loose cinch and take bridle off and continue walking. Once they are breathing normal again I will take back to the trailer, un tack, hose down and tie up for a few more minutes till most of the sweat is gone. Before I put them back on the trailer I will water, linement, and wrap.

I just wanted to add that you should ask what the previous did to help make your horse successful.  :

1. What is your pre-race routine? (i.e magnets, BOT, etc) [Don't believe in magnets and don't feel a need to have excess heat trapped on the horse during warm months so not BOT, but I do think BOT is beneficial in colder months.]

2. How do you haul long distances? (i.e. do you use shipping boots, soft rides, standing wraps, etc.) [Soft rides only when in the trailer, stalled on concrete, or gravel. Other than those conditions I don't keep soft rides on, I feel It is like walking around with ankle weights on, thus fatigue. Standing wraps trap heat so I do not wrap]

3. What do you give for performance? (i.e oxy-gen products, etc. I'm not much on these types of things but I'm definitely curious as to what others do) [Electrolyte JUG paste. Love that stuff]

4. What is your post race routine? (i.e. BOT, magnets, cold hose, poultice, etc.) [I do not believe in poultice either, but will use a dmso/dex mix. LOVE that stuff but have to be cautious with it. My horses live under the cold hose when at shows, especially when its hot!]
