Location: Never in one place long | So today at the shelter I volunteer at animal control brought in a stray BALL PYTHON someone had ditched and let loose!! I saw a post on facebook about someone wanting to "get rid" of 10 ball pythongs asap so I'm wondering if there aren't 9 more wandering around. We've had over 215 DOGS and 300 cat/kittens some in from January-June.. it's just incredible to me how many irresponsible individuals are out there that ditch their pets or turn them in for the silliest of reasons like their a piece of trash to be discarded with a "not my problem anymore" mentality. About the time we think it's getting better it gets worse! Is it too much to dream of a better day for animals? Incredible!!

| That drives me bonkers!!!! Getting an animal is serious. Especially if the lifespan of that animal is long. It depends on you for the entirety of its life. Pet snakes being let go is a big problem in Florida. I think restrictions on exotic pets should be tightened. I wish people were more responsible in the case of all pets. |

They were just rats and guinea pigs anyway, so not like a major responsibility pet. We'd never just drop our dogs off at a shelter. I couldn't live with myself! They're family! |

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | Out where we live at the edge of the National Forest is a prime dumping ground. Just in the past year we have taken in and kept two kittens and two young dogs. (Of course the first thing we do is spay/neuter...but these dumping idiots just breed more) We have found homes for two pitt bulls that were dumped recently...and just about two weeks ago someone dumped SIX young dogs on the forest side of the road along with a poured out bag of food. Looked like golden ret. mix...littermates. We tried to catch the pups to see what we could do to find homes for them (SIX...really??) But they were scared and ran into the woods. We never saw them again.
What do these pet dumping idiots think happens to their pet when they take it out to the country and dump it? They either starve, get hit by logging trucks, get eaten by coyotes, or shot. It's a lucky one that gets a new home in time. Makes me furious.

That's terrible but not surprising at all. So awful what people can do, you wonder what if anything is going through their head. Disgusting people! That is wonderful that you get them spayed and neutered!!! That must be so hard seeing that all the time too. |

| I read an article the other day that said a couple took their elderly dog to a shelter to surrender and adopted a puppy :(. I can't believe the shelter would let them take a puppy, they should not own pets. |

You are so right! Someone that ditches them when they get old is not fit to own pets PERIOD! We see that too, it's so sad, we had a 9yr old red heeler and a 13 yr aussie get dumped a few weeks ago because the owner "didn't have time" :( luckily, I found both wonderful homes that didn't care they were old. |

I'm very fortunate that my husband is as soft-hearted towards animals as I am. He knows if we see an animal in need on the road we are going to stop and do whatever we can. If I ever DO actually catch the people in the act of dumping them...You bet I'll call the sheriff, and the Forest ranger officer for our area. But I haven't caught anyone until after the animals are dumped. |

They should be ashamed of themselfs at the shelter for letting this couple take home a puppy after they just dumped their elderly dog, so shameful |

My husband has a big heart for me so he is kind and sweet to my animals. This is my latest addition from a feral litter I found in my hay barn. I think he has a soft spot for him :).

We ALWAYS turn people in if we can catch them. Yes, there is a special place in HELL for people who dump animals. I could NEVER live with myself if I did that!! I can't even fathom doing it. |

I have never been able to catch anyone dumping an animal. Which is probably good because my friends and family would be visiting me in jail. I have taken in so many and it just makes me sick. |

| The problem we have with animals makes me so sad...I also think there needs to be more restrictions especially on breeding and harsher penalties for puppy mills, dog fighting, animal abuse, etc etc. My little dog was found on a back road with THIRTY other little dogs that were literally just dropped out of a vehicle there. They all had mange and no hair and were scared to death and they never caught the b**tards. I agree, there is a special place in Hell for people who are mean to animals, children, and the elderly. |

OH my goodness! This is unbelieveable! who would have THIRTY puppies!! It truly is horrifying the amount of animals that are euthanized every year and homeless! Yet breeders keep pouring out puppies for profits.. something has to change.. it's out of control..the incentives to spay and neuter just aren't doing enough.. I hope I live to see a day when this is all a thing of the past, sadly, I believe greed and evil will make this never ending....
I agree, there is a special place in Hell for those who harm the week be it children, elderly, disabled and animals. There is NO reason for it and it is pure evil. |
