Location: Mountains of VA | If it's a mare or you are wanting to re-sell then bloodlines/paper will help, otherwise, look at conformation and temperament. The two MOST limiting factors in a horse's performance career are conformation and extreme temperaments.
Personally I like short backs, level toplines, strong loins and angulation in the hind leg which allows a horse to get up under and work off those hindquarters. Being able to naturally stay balanced in the field working off their hindquarters and swapping leads puts a horse way ahead for a performance career. Being smooth to ride is a plus too! The list could go on for me. Body size and height of the horse is considered too. Not all horses will fit all riders or all riders will not fit all horses. |

Grit, confirmation, pedigree. Not necessarily in that order. You have to have them all. Personally I want some Dash Ta Fame or some Frenchman's Guy. If you can get both, that is even better.

| Now thats a great looking baby! Those hips!! You definitely deserve to brag :)
Yes I agree i like a short back, big hips and a nice shoulder. I personallytend to like the cow bred horses vs the running bred. Just a personal preference. Personality is a big thing, I like a spicy mare! |

| Aside from the obvious bloodlines and conformation that have already been metnioned, I look for PERSONALITY. It doesn't matter how well bred a horse is if I can't stand to be around it because a) I don't get along with it or b) it's like handling any old machine. Color doesn't matter to me AT ALL but I will not buy a horse with no personality. |

Location: bring on the heat, NV | Im all for averages... I want average height, build, and temperament with above average movement and clean conformation. They have got to travel CLEAN or its like a scratch I cant itch... really bothers me. Generally if they are all the above they tend to travel nice. I like a big walk too. |

| We have someone FARRRR more knowledgeable help us out.
I think it takes decades of hands on breeding, training and racing to really have an eye for what makes a good prospect, or just mix A and B then hope for the best. |

| "TOOTER" in the previous photo was 19 days old ...
these photos are 64 days old...
His sire is a silver bay roan and his dam is gray ... and he is beginning to shed with
a roany look but could end up gray ... AQHA is going to love registering him .. lol
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/streakin+flashtafame
His breeding was very intentional to nail a good dose of A STREAK OF FLING // Streakin Six and the high caliber DTF mare Silver Creek Dash with $53k in barrel earnings and adding the muscles, big bone while maintaining the hard turns, fast gathering and more top speed with the inclusion of Royal Quick Dash genes by his dam .... which combines the genes of Fulton Ranch's other senior sire CS Flashlight ... who is sired by Royal Quick Dash. ..he should mature at 15.2HH..... I think Tooter will have the mind and abilities to compete in a lot of different pro rodeo events!!
TIME WILL TELL ..
Squint your eyes so you can see the roany gray patches as he sheds off...
and aggravating poor old Squirt the barn dawg to come play with him ...
lol

 Go For It!
     Location: Texas |
I start with breeding. I won't even look at a horse that doesn't have the breeding I like. Next is conformation... they need to be well balanced and good looking. If they have those two things then I'll move them to the round pen... They have to show me that they have a GREAT mind, this is the one thing I will not compromise on. Even if they are a little goofy or haven't been messed with they can still show me what kind of mind they have when I mess with them in the round pen. If those things are all there, then they'll make you look good as a trainer. And they'll sell themselves if you are looking to move them later.

| 1. Personality/ Attitude. IMO you can have the most talented or best papered horse out there but if it doesn't WANT to work, it's not going to.
2. Conformation. Only reason I put this ahead of pedigree is because ugly doesn't sell and I know first hand what it's like to have a horse with more try than physical capability. I have one. It's not fair to them.
3. Pedigree. Honestly, for personal use, performance means much more to me but for resale or breeding purposes what's on the papers are important. That being said I will breed a mare with meh papers if she herself has done something worth breeding to.
Edited to add the above is not how I first look for one, but when I go see one, that's how I view them. As stated by a few above, if I'm looking on the Internet or whatever I look at papers and conformation first simply because that's what you see first. Resale is very important to me.

| Confirmation is #1 and how they move. If it is a filly I'll take bloodlines into consideration but gelding is not that big of deal for bloodlines to me. I also like to look at their attitude. To be all the good ones have a little attitude, but that is just myself.
