So, I let my boyfriend take one of my horses to a week long trail ride as a second horse. He rode him for the first time today and called me to ask if it was normal for the horse to be so gassy. He said that every time he went up or down a hill for the three hour ride, he would toot with each step.

His stool is fine and he is eating and drinking. He has electrolytes in his water and his hay bag has stayed full to keep him busy.

Could his case of the toots just be from nerves? This is the first trail ride that he's been on with us since we bought him last year.

We fondly call those in our house a Toot-asaurus Rex.

I have nothing helpful to add.

It is a problem if the horse is not letting it out.

I get that way myself once in a while. Always feels better after a couple good toots.

I think horses are like people--some are more gassy than others. I have a pony that is very gassy--always makes the kids laugh when they ride him.
