What is the going rate to pay someone that will stay at your house while you are gone & take care of your animals? Animals include 2 horses, 4 cats & 10 roping calves?

We have a lady that comes and stay's at our house when we are gone. We have 4 horses, 4 dogs, and 2 cats. Plus she keeps things watered. We pay her $50.00 a day and she is here 24 hours a day when we are gone.

Gotcha! Hmm, I'm not much help either. Lol. I guess it also depends on if she's bringing her own food or is eating your's, has animals of her own she has to take care of at home, etc. But I'd say around $50-$100!

Thanks ThreeCorners! That is kind of what I was thinking. I want to give her enough so she will be available to do it again when I need her.

How much farther is it for her to commute for work? I would calculate this into it.

I would figure out how long the chores will take and pay 20/hr

If they won't take anything, buy them something they will appreciate

When I went to Vegas for 10 days my horses needed the water tanks filled up 2 times, the person had to travel 1/4 mile and it took the tanks about an hour to fill, she wouldn't take money, so I bought her a great quality rawhide headstall, she greatly appreciated it.

We generally figure $15-20/visit depending on how many horses and dogs we have home. Generally it is 5 horses, 1 huge pig, 2 calves and 2 steer as well as 2 outdoor dog. When gone, we have people come feed 2x/day; morning generally takes 30min (no one is grained, dogs aren't fed), evening takes about an hourish - everyone is on pasture.

I have a former student help me out when I'm out of town. She's 21 now and is very dependable. She lives about 20 minutes away and comes out twice a day to feed my 3 horses, 4 goats and 2 mini-donkeys. It only takes about 10 minutes to throw feed and put on/take off fly masks. I pay her $20 a trip/$40 a day. She lives in town, but is a country girl and always says she'd do it for free.

I paid $200 for 3 days, 4 horses, 6 dogs, a few cats-feed 2 x day, 15 minute drive to my house.  She was a very reliable, knew horses so would recognize a problem, could haul to the vet is necessary.  I paid her well so she would want to continue to help and I could be gone with out having to worry about my 4 legged crew.

If you supplied their food and mine I'd feed the horses and calves for free... But the cats would be $5/day.... each....

I housesit for like 3 different people. Everyone pays me something different. I don't ask for anything, whatever they give me is okay. It's anywhere from $50-$300. One place is right down the road from me, 2 horses and 2 cats. The other is my cousins, which is in town but closer to my work. 4 dogs, 5 horses, 3 cats. The other lady is just 2 dogs. I housesit for them all on a regular basis.

We pay 25-30$ per day (24 hours) to house sit, that is to take care of a dog and watch the horses. Barn chores we pay 8.50 per hour.

I was paying my SIL's sister to stay at my house last summer for 3 months, 2 dogs, 3 horses (one needed grain twice daily in a stall) and 3 cats. I paid her $200 a month, which I think was fairly cheap.

It really depends on what chores are required. Three horses take 10 minutes a day to feed. I have someone coming to stay who will also keep horses legged up while I'm gone and check in on my elderly mother.  I'm paying $50/day.

I've had several do that for me. 7 horses, 3 dogs, 2 barn cats.  The ones that have actually stayed here got $25/day and all the food and drinks they wanted.  Now I pretty much use the retired rodeo mom that lives a mile from me and approached me about just wanting to do something with her time.  She comes once a day and charges $20/day when we need her.  For a couple of years, I had the best deal.  My office assistant just wanted to stay somewhere besides her mom's house so she stayed overnight, was free, and begged me to let her do it when she heard I'd be taking a trip.
