Since my gelding is fixed, we are back on barrels. He is awesome with second/third, hits his pocket, listens to rate....but first barrel he keeps trying to shoulder the barrel. I know part of it could be he still thinks it will hurt him, but he's riding so much better. I've done a few drills, and had another rider stand at first which worked....What are some other drills I can do to keep him off the barrel?

When you feel him start shouldering counter-arc away from the barrel.

Didn't think about that one! I'll try that one this evening.

This has worked wonders for my seasoned mare who started thinking she could do it all on her own. ;)
