Location: MD | We thankfully have somehow been blessed with neighbors that have a brain. They left notes in mailboxes saying they are setting off a fireworks "show" which is within walking distance of our home and wanted others to know so we don't have lost puppies or scared animals... We've had random bottle rockets and things like that before but nothing really consistently loud.
Do you leave your horses stalled with a radio on? leave them out to pasture? I guess I've never been prepared for this sort of thing to even think of what to do ahead of time! |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I, personally, would leave mine in the pasture. They may run, buck and snort. But at least they have the room to as long as they know the perimeter. If mine are stalled during commotion, they have a fit. My mare especially. She climbs the stall walls like a monkey. JMO. Good luck. I hope it is uneventful. |

Location: East TN | Thankfully we aren't around many who shoot off their own fireworks...however, for the ones you can still hear, I've always left mine up with radio and fans on. Has always worked pretty well :) and i also leave the barn lights on to dull the flash (if the fireworks are close enough to illuminate the barn that is) |

Location: Oklahoma | I will be keeping mine in their lot. It's covered and big enough for both of them to walk around in, but probably not big enough if they decide to act out.. I have neighbors fairly close, but thankfully plenty of pine trees as a barrier. I wonder if it would do any good to give them some Quietex or something similar? I have two fans going and I will add a radio, but one gelding has great hearing and he picks up on things much easier than the other one. |

| What great neighbors! A few years ago, the day after the 4th, I was riding in my pasture ponying 2 horses and my neigbors I share a fence line started setting off fireworks that went right over us. Needless to say I had horse freaking out for a few minutes. I keep mine stalled.

I was almost stupefied when I read it, very happy to get a note like that! My horses would have gave me the finger and bailed on me in a hot second if that happened to me! glad you're okay!! |

Location: The edge of no where | If you haven't had them around fireworks before, I'd stall them. You don't want them to be able to build up an speed running in a pasture. At 4th of July rodeos, we've put horses that flipped out in the trailer to keep them safer. I've seen them break loose and run thru fences, it's ugly. |

Yea I had two run through the fence due to fireworks. One got hit by a truck and died the other injured. Since then I started putting them in the round pen with plenty of hay Or when at rodeos I would put my mare in the trailer or hold her in panels. My horses have gotten older and we moved to an area where no one really set any off so we moved to leaving them in the pasture. BUT I am scared and paranoid the whole time.... We recently moved and I am scared for this weekend not knowing what is the norm around there..... REALLY Wish I had a barn to lock them in.... Good luck. |

Location: Central Texas | I think it can be different for all horses. We live in a rural community and there is a BIG fireworks show about 2 football fields length from us. It's always a worrisome time for us but we have found the best thing for our horses is to leave them as they are. Some are in stalls and they stay in the stalls, some are in larger turn out pens, thats where they stay, some are in the pasture, that's where they stay. They seem to do better if they stay in the normal daily situation. I love the 4th of July but I hate the fireworks when they are on top of us! |

| We have a few neighbors who set some off . I don't have a barn so everyone stays in their pens and my mares and babies are on pasture. I don't usually have anyone get to crazy but do have one mare who I have to stand with. Last year her and I stayed in the trailer which was better for her. She has a colt this year so I will bring them in to a pen so she doesn't run the colt to much. They did ban fireworks this year where we are but not until Friday so I am sure we will have some set off the next few days. |

Location: southeast Texas | Last year mine did OK till the BOOMING fireworks went off. That sound split by my house trailer echoed off my metal barn on one side. The two horses up front freaked out. This year they will be up, barn door down, music and fans on. Stupid neighbors |

For two reasons, because we like to blow stuff up...not really, but we do have firearms and do just enough shooting that they are used to it. They have been around enough fireworks now.
But mostly becuase we spent six years in Georgia, stationed at Fort Stewart. Artillary and tank ranges made the house shake more often then not. That will get a horse used to anything.
Our neighbors in GA were setting off firecrackers one night when I got home after dark. Their driveway was about 15 feet from my barn. That's the one night the horses decided to get stupid about it. I was about to yell over to them to ask them to stop long enough for me to put up the horses, but they realized it and stopped themselves until I gave them the green light.
Now we have no close neighbors :) |

| Ours are pretty immune to it as well. My boys have snap-n-pop fights in the barn. They really are good at sacking out our horses! They might get a little snorty and run a little, but it doesn't last long. During hunting season they will actually run towards the hunters when they shoot instead of away from them. The first year living here I was pretty paranoid about the hunters, but as long as they stay out of our pastures I don't worry about it anymore.

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | I leave them out. They're used to gunshots and dynamite explosions (beaver dams LOL), so the fireworks across the road aren't a big deal. |

Location: LuluLand~along I64 Indiana | mine will be stalled this weekend. i had a very bad incedent at a horse show with fireworks and have since never shown again over the 4th and they will be comfy in their stalls with pleanty of hay and water where they know they are safe and i will have peace of mind. god bless your neighbors. |

| My great neighbors shoot off bottle rockets that land all over my roof.
Can't believe my house hasn't burned down. I pulled up to my front gate at about 4 in the afternoon on July 5. NOT the 4th. I had to catch the horse that is in that pasture so she would not run through the gate. Their adult son starts throwing firecrackers over on my property. My horses were going crazy because it was about 50 feet from me. I screamed at him to stop and he finally did. The guy didn't even have big enough balls to get where he could be seen. He was behind building. Best part is without a video, nothing can be done. It is kind of hard to video when you have a terrified horse running in circles and over the top of you.
They will probably blow one of their hands off one of these days so I'm good. |
