| Just saw some fresh senior formula at my local tractor supply and picked some up. My colt and my 10 year old look great on purina ultium but it's such a game of keeping them from getting hot. Just wondering if anyone used the senior. Thanks! |

| I've always wondered how people like this brand & how it compared to other senior feeds . I've fed purina & triple crown with good results . Curious to see reviews on the nutrena! |

Location: W. Pa. | I feed my 30 year old gelding and my 16 year old mare Nutrena Safechoice Senior. I am very happy with it. I have also fed it to our younger hoses but hae just switched the younger ones to the Original Safechoice because of cost. |

Location: Adopt a homeless pet - www.petfinder.com! | I been feeding it to my 27 year-old for several years. He's done really well on it. I can't say if it makes him hot or not because at his age that would take a lot of effort!

| Thanks! I opened up the bag when I got home and it has a very similar texture to TC senior. My TC senior has really gone down in quality so hope my tractor supply can keep this in stock. If it works or not will be determined by my colt. I sure hope he keeps his weight and shine. |

Location: Northwest | I really like the Nutrena Safechoice Senior. I've used it for a long time. I tried switching my 20 yr old to Renew Gold and he just didn't look nearly as good so I switched back to Nutrena. I have tried Purina Senior but it made my horse VERY HOT, which the Nutrena product never has. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I fed it for a while, last fall and into the winter. The first batch I bought was good. The next batch I bought had mold so I returned it and bought another batch, that stuff didn't look right, very inconsistent, and on top of it my horse started not feeling good. I got a hold of Nutrena to find out where it was bagged. It was from a facility where they run medicated cattle feed through the same line. It took a while to get the truth out of them. |

| I'll be the odd one out here.....I think its a waste to feed senior feed to any horse whose teeth are in good enough shape to still eat hay or grass. You are just paying for fiber which is much cheaper in the form of hay or grass and the feeding rate can be double due to being bulked up with all that fiber. With a high feeding rate that makes senior feed crazy expensive and there's nothing magical about senior feed unless your horse can't eat hay or grass. With that said...I think Safechoice Original IS magical! Its amazing what differences I see in my horses from the SC Original....its very affordable too because the feeding rate is low. |

In theory you would be correct....except you are forgetting that not everyone has access to high quality forage. Senior feed in that instance is a suitable alternative. |

Definitely true! We grow our own so I never worry about that but hay here is super dirt cheap so I can't imagine paying big $$'s for fiber but I know hay isn't cheap everywhere!! Even if the hay was fairly expensive I'd still rather feed it instead of senior feed though since it gives them something to do for a long time vs. the senior feed being all eaten up within just a few minutes. |

All of tractor supply has stock that is 3-4 months old!!! All the other feed stores that carry it are the same, it is not popular around here so it just sits and gets old. I feed to little grain at a time that I can visually inspect for mold etc. I bet that has to do with where its milled ) Region of the U.S.) I cannot get blue bonnet etc out here in CA. THere is a local mill that produces a nice feed but you can ONLY buy it HERE where I live "most" of the time. If I travel I would have to take like 10 bags with me and thats a pain. I need a feed that I can "Find" pretty much anywhere thats fresh. I will give this senior some time, and my horses did well on the origional SC to if needed. I just like the higher fat content of the Senior. |

Have you looked into the Safechoice Perform then? It has 9% fat....the senior formula only has 8% fat. I have had really good results with the Perform as far as body condition for my horses however I did feel like it made them somewhat high strung therefor I went back to the Original. |

Absolutely! I wanted to try the perform but the only place that carries it is tractor supply and they never have it in stock lol They sell a lot of the origioal and senior. Its always fresh. I wish I could get the perform... |
