Location: North Carolina | I'm a complete rookie to A.I., I've only ever bred mares with live cover. What's the average total for having a mare inseminated (from the actual insemination to the preg check).
Thanks in advance! |

Location: Somewhere between raising hell and Amazing Grace | My mare didin't ovulate the first time last year, had to be brought back in, total cost was less then 600 BUT she was done on the farm where the stallion was, so no shipping and hauling. And that was just vet fees, not hauling fees or boarding fees. |

Location: Kansas | mine cost around 1000 without the stud fees but the vet we used is a little pricey normally. they were the only ones close that were able to do it. that included preg checks and ovulation checks along with the A.I. |

Location: Oklahoma & Texas | If everything goes right and I mean exactly right..you might get through it for about 500-750 in vet fees n costs..not counting stallion fees a lot of that depends on the vet though cost wise...if you try twice you'll be looking at 1k-1500 depending on shots/hormones etc plus boarding fees..mare care is running 19 a day (around 600 a month ) at Weatherford equine ....adds up fast! Oh and it never goes as planned just fyi lol
I only bred 2 this year...and mind you I've had 1 mare at Weatherford equine since April the other I took in may...I'm picking em up the 10th (this next friday) both are bred..1st one took 1st time but still cost around 1k just to breed once with all the prep n what not....2nd one was a tricky catch this year..had triplets 1st time pinched 2 off lost all 3..had twins second time pinched one off kept her on regumate and she held and is now 45 days along weaned off regumate...as of June 1st i had spent 5200 with vet fees n mare care/board alone..not counting stallion fees..I think I'll probably owe another 2k or so haven't got my last bill yet for June through July 10th.. so that'll be about 7200 for 2 mares total...3600 average each....thank God my husband doesn't read BHW because he'd sh*t if he had any idea lol I could've picked the one mare up mid may but it's a 4 hr 1 way trip for me so I decided to leave her there til I went to get them both together..remind me again why I wanted to breed ? Lol on a good note I will have a Shawne Bug Leo baby next year out of a nice rodeo mare and a Dashin Dynamo baby out of my bully bullion daughter...let's hope they are winners!! :) |

Location: Nebraska | I paid around $400. First shipment was included and I hauled back and forth to the vet. The $400 included all the shots, ultrasounds, lavage, ai and return of the carrier. It was my first breeding. We missed by mare the first time by less than 24hrs. We short cycled her and she stuck the next time. |

| Ive been really lucky so far ....
last year my total cost was $560 dollars but i got $100 off my bill for picking up semen when i got mine. But i hauled her back and forth to my vet. So saved the mare care it just took time.
This year I took my mare to the stallion and his owners do the ai on sight, and it cost $80 so im pretty happy. My other mare was live cover. Everybody settled first try for me and no twins.
Talk to me next year after I attempt frozen ..... im already nervous lol.
ETA - I always budget for 1500-2000 per mare. It dosent always work out so nicely.

Location: Where I am happiest | It really depends. We have 1 mare who has taken first shipment every time. So all total about $400 in vet fee's alone and thats just because everything has always gone picture perfect like clock work with her. HOWEVER, if there are multiple shipments/inseminations trying to get her in foal, the costs can skyrocket very quickly. Last mare we bred that didnt go as nice and easy as the above mentioned mare, we had $3000 invested just in vet fee's and never did get her in foal. Then you have to add on the stud fee, and the stallions shipping costs per shipment. |

| I spent $2k last year to get this years' baby. That was cooling, AI, ultrasounds, mare care, and board. Stud fee and collection were additional. |

This includes stud fee, shipment, vet care, and 14-16 day Ultrasound Preg Check following. I am fortunate my mare took the first time. Some vet clinics have mare breeding packages, which is what I did. Cost $425 for my mare to be there for 1 week and they handled everything from there. Only cost not included was fuel to haul my mare there and back.

A vet can certainly make or break you on breeding ;) |

Location: Desert Land | It varies for me. I use a few different facilities depending on the mare and the semen.
I have a great repro specialist (not a vet) around the corner from me that I use for the most part and it runs about $200-400 a cycle for her services (not stud fee, shipping fees, etc). I spent about $500 for 2 cycles on one mare with her this spring. We're getting ready to preg check another mare today and I think we're about $200 in to her so far.
Another mare I drove 250 miles north to a specific facility because they have had great success using the frozen DTF semen and I left the mare there for about 2 months to get bred and check in foal and it was about $1,300 total. The majority of it being mare care. BUT for the baby I am getting out of it, it's well worth the cost. |

Location: North Carolina | Thanks for all your replies! It looks like where the prices can start racking up is if you board them somewhere. I'll just haul back & forth, the mare care prices are pretty high considering how long they have to be there sometimes. |

Remember hauling costs money, time, fuel, wear and tear on the vehicle.
Also with any horse pregnancy some horses will become too stressed and will not conceive, or too stressed and will absorb the foal if the horse is trailered.
