We have a mare that has REALLY hard cycles.  Our vet has started her on Regumate, but I was wondering if it would help to put her on a mare supplement as well.  Has anyone ever combined Regumate along with any supplements (Mare Magic, Moody Mare, etc)?    Do you feel Regumate alone was enough?

My mare cycled really really badly. I put her on the injectable Regumate in December and it has made a huge difference. She is supposed to get a shot every 12 days, but I do it 11 1/2 days. If I wait the extra 1/2 day, I have noticed her peeing more and being a little crankier. That 1/2 day makes a difference in her. Honestly, I would give the Regumate a chance and see. If you do two things at once, you won't know what is really helping her and are just spending extra money if one thing would help. Just my 2 cents.

Are you dosing daily oral Regumate or are you giving IM Regumate?

I have a mare that hard cycles badly and I have her on generic progestrone IM every two weeks and she is doing great.  I was doing every 3 weeks but noticed she was starting to come into heat before the 3rd week so my vet suggested every two weeks instead and she has been on this schedule since January and no problems at all.  I think Regumate oral is awesome but I am not chancing getting those hormones on me anymore.
I used it years ago and even using gloves I managed to drop the bottle and that stuff went all over my arm-NO WAY anymore!  I would have my hubby give it but half the time he would forget and so I went to injectable-easy peasy.

We will be dosing orally for right now. I couldn't justify the extra cost for the IM Regumate. The prior owners had her on Regumate before so she was really good about dosing. If she starts to be a pain then we will go to IM. I just want to make her as comfortable as possible, so I wasnt sure if I should feed another supplement with it, or if Regumate will be enough.

Thanks!

My one broodie just loves regumate. I have no problems dosing her...she practically opens her mouth for it. She's also kind of weird and a character anyway so maybe it's just her.

I put my mare's Regumate in her feed. She eats it right up. I will never go without Regumate for that mare. It has worked exactly how I was hoping.

It comes to roughly $70 a month. SO WORTH IT! The upfront cost is pricey at around $240 for a bottle but honestly for my horse it was one of the best investments I have made for her. She is consistent, comfortable, happy, and just a blast to run.

So when you put it in her feed, do you mix it with her grain?  Do you have to increase the dosage at all?

My mare is really good about using a syringe (she doesnt spit any out or fight), but I just worry about getting any on me.  We considered doing the injections, but this is already pricy enough.  We just couldnt pay for the IM quite yet. I noticed a difference within 24 hours of the first dose!  Im pretty excited to see how she is after a few days!

You can get the injectable Regumate from BetPharm (need a presecription) for $185 shipped.  This is a vial of 7 injections.  That comes out to $26.43 a shot or $79.28 a month.  There is a once a month injection, but the shipping on it is astronomical.

It is regumate so yes it works just as good. It's just injectable vs. feed through.
