Go Get Em! Posts: 13503 Location: OH. IO	First...my dogs go to 2 different vets depending on their needs.So with that said my rotti recently came down with a yeast ear infection.Ive always done the clean the ears and meds routine untill now. Two days into cleaning with white vinegar and no more head shaking! Just passing info on to those who maybe fail on the meds or want to try it.I research feeds as well so just wanted to share. Warmblood with Wings Posts: 27846 Location: Florida..	great info .. my rottie gets yeast alot in toes.. so I add like 1/4 cup vinager with a cup of warm water and stick her feet in it several times a day .. and sometimes I add hydrogen peroxide just a smidge of it only.. and it clears up with a day or two..

Go Get Em! Posts: 13503 Location: OH. IO	I poured straight vinegar on a cotton ball and cleaned as far as I could both days.I also googled and it said you can do a mixture of vinegar and water but I didnt want to squirt alot of fluid in ears.I didnt soak her ears...just rubbed them clean.

Dumb question maybe----how do I know the difference between yeast and ear mites? (Obviously I mean w/o going the vet route!) One of my outside dogs has started shaking her head a lot in the last two or three days, and I immediately started the ear mite meds. . .

Horsey Gene Carrier Posts: 1888 Location: LaBelle, Florida	If a dog has a yeast infection in the ears, take a sniff...you will know it. Ear mites usually cause the itching and just yuck in the ears. Yeasty tends to smell really bad/strong.

Took her to vet and found out... yeast infection. Got some meds to put in her ears 2 x day for 7 days. But I'm not convinced it is gone. She is still touch/itchy about her ears. Can I use this on a cat?

I had an older cat with a yeast infection in her ear and it cleared it up overnight almost. It also has something in the medicine that deadens the nerve endings so they quit scratching instantly and don't bother the wound. I bought this for a horse that wouldn't end up letting me doctor her and I'm so glad I did. I will always keep a tube of this stuff for all the animals at the house, especially the cats because there's so much you can't use on them. Here's the link to it: http://lambertkay.com/health/emt-wound-care/emt-gel You can find it at Tractor Supply and other places like that for about $15 per tube but it's well worth it. You won't use much at a time because it's really thick and kind of sticky.
