 Underestimated Underdog

Location: Minnesota | I'm at a point in my life where I'm ready to start over. I've never been the type of person to just want to pack up and go somewhere where I don't know anyone but I have this itch to just start all over. For those of you who have packed up and moved somewhere totally different where you didn't know anyone and started over, where did you go? Did you stay permanently? If you had to do it over would you do anything different? Let's here some stories.  |

Location: Running barrels or watching nascar | I've wanted to do the same. The only thing that keeps me in my current location is horses. I love running barrels but I also want to pursue another career and to do that, I may have to move. |

Location: Feeding mosquitos, FL | We did - packed up and moved to the Florida panhandle which is only about 4 hours away from where I grew up but light years away in terms of pace and culture. Completely different place. It was tough for a bit because I really really missed my mama and absolutely hated not knowing where the dang grocery store/gas station/feed store was but now I wouldn't move back if you paid me.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd have a job nailed down before I moved or a bigger money cushion. We were pooooooor for about nine months until I got a job that paid anything. And then were only slightly less poor because I had to pay down the debt I'd accrued from being out of work.
The best part about having horses and competing is you're basically required to go out and meet people. You're bound to like some of them. ;) |

Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | I moved to Texas for about 6 months. I lived at home until I was 24 and moved about 24 hours away. I only knew my SO and no one else. We have since moved about 6 times and are currently in Wyoming.
I would totally do it again. It got me out of my comfort zone. I would suggest having a job before going somewhere. I had some money saved up but it went really fast after not having a job for almost 9 months.

Location: Deep South | I packed up and moved to Hunstville, TX to go to school. I didn't know a soul until I got there. It was so much fun. I learned a lot about myself and had many unforgettable experiences. I recommend moving away to everyone now. Just getting out of your comfort zone and doing something on your own.
I did end up moving back "home." I'm now settled down, married and bought my own house just a few minutes from where I grew up. But I wouldn't trade the experience of moving away even for a short time for anything. |

Location: The edge of no where | Loaded all my stuff when I was 22 and moved 8 hours from home.....it was tough sometimes the first few years, but I LOVE it here. Have a job lined up and then just go for it. |

Location: Phoenix | Right out of college my boyfriend and I move to San Diego for three years. I hated it because it's a big city, too crowded, people are rude and I didn't have my horse with me. Then my boyfriend got laid off from his job and it was either move back home to where my family is, or move to Arizona where his mom lives. I decided economy was better in Arizona so we moved here last March. I love it here. The desert is beautiful. I finally have my horse, people drive better here, and I live in North Scottsdale, so it feels like I am in the country, but I'm minutes to everything. The heat isn't the end of the world. I'd rather be hot for 4 months than scrape ice off my car for 6.

yes...San Diego sucks. I am still here. If my job said we are opening a branch in Utah, Texas, Arizona, or Wyoming...I would be gone. One day when we get financially back on our feet, we are out of here. I agree, have a jon or family wherever it os you plan to go. All y'all that moved without jobs lined up first have got some grit!!  I'm not sure I could do that. |

Location: SE Louisiana | I moved from central Missouri to south central Idaho. Between the Sawtooth mountains and the Bonneville flood plain along the Snake River I just loved it there. I stayed for 6 years. The last winter I was there tho it snowed a week after Thanksgiving, giving us about 4 inches. On the 15th of April that snow was still on the ground. For four and a half months it never got above freezing. I decided that was going to be my last winter in Idaho... I now live in SE Louisiana. It's not as interesting geologically but it's a darn site warmer! |

Location: California | From California to Texas, back to Cali, back to Texas, then to Ohio, then back to Cali (5 hours from where I am from) and I think I will ultimately end up in Oregon (or Texas or Cali LOL). I moved when I was 18 and now I am 22 and I haven't stopped since. I love seeing new places, meeting new people, living in different climates, and always having new and different. Some people don't agree with it but I wouldn't change it for anything. I get bored easily and like to change things up. My horses go with me everywhere too. If I hadn't moved so much I would definitely have a lot of money in the bank but somehow I always scrounged up what it took to go where I wanted. I have got to experience so much and I recommend it to anyone. |

Location: When you hit the middle of nowhere .. Keep driving | I`ve wanted to move away for a long time, every time I get ready too life happens. Make a list of what you would like and need and just start searching. I was fortunate enough to travel a lot and found where I love to be (Louisiana along the texas boarder ideally if I can or if I stay in Canada Alberta). All I can say is go while your young ... I waited and now I have a lot of responsibilities I wish I would have done it 8 years ago when I graduated.

| I moved about three hours away for school (where I'm at now and I'm going into my senior year). It doesn't seem that far and I have my grandparents about 30 min away but I'm so happy I got my own apartment this year, I'm glad my previous boyfriend had dumped me (who I was mopey about last fall on here), and that I went out and started hanging out with my friends more, working two jobs, meeting my new great boyfriend, getting back into horses and riding, and simply just doing things for ME. I lived where my grandparents lived for about 3 years when I was little (I've moved around 17 times) so things are somewhat familiar in some places but it still was a big change for me and I really like it up here. I agree that everyone should step outside of their comfort zone. I say do it and the opportunities are endless! I live in northern WV and go to WVU. I'm not sure where you'd like to go but good luck!! |

That pretty much sucked so we got a job in TX and moved to Gainesville for about 6 months. Wasn't what we wanted so we came back to out much loved WY and worked on a ranch and started horses for a guy that is still a great friend yrs later. About 3yrs of that and we moved back to the family ranch, but put our foot down a little more about what kind of slave labor we'll do  |

Location: NC | I decided that going to school in TN was where i wanted to be after living on long island, ny my entire life. I packed up my stuff moved to Northwest TN. Loved it there, had my own apt, my horses and a bf. Got to see east of Mississippi river including ill due to a bf that was a truck driver. Ended up coming back after a year because my mom needed me after my dad died. Now we are going to NC in 2 weeks to look at houses. Thats where i want to be.
Although some night i just want to load the horses and dog and be gone. Get away from the stress for a while. |

Location: Where the pavement ends and the West begins Utah | Went to California...hated it. Moved to Utah hated it for 3 years moved south to the base of the mountain and loved it for 15 years. Divorced met a cheap moved the michigan hating everyday here and the mosquitoes or 747's are so thick you can't breath. Careful when you go and who with. |

I'm originally from Jackson, TN. Went to college at UT Martin. That area will airways be "home". But I've also lived in Iowa (no thank you wintertime) & now in Oklahoma since 2001. Love it here and haven't ever regretting moving here. The only downside is my daughter is far away from grandparents but it's nothing a trip down I40 east can't cure. |

Thats actually where i went was UT Martin. Loved it there! Had a huge shock the first time the tornado sirens went off. Never heard them before. |

| We moved from eastern PA to SW Va 2 years ago. Actually bought a house before really knowing the area well and moved everything down. Its been hard establishing our business, but its finally picking up this summer. I would absolutely not move back, do not miss the humidity and crowded area at all. I'd love to find a different farm a little more private and with some woods for riding/hiking but I'd still want it to be in the same area. |
