Location: Dearing, GA | Found out that the man I sold my last horse to was thinning his herd. He offered me my colt back at a price I couldn't refuse! I go pick up my boy next week!
Now I get to shop for bits and SMBs and all that fun stuff again-- good thing I have the basics (saddle, pad and bridle)!

Location: Dearing, GA | Well I picked up my horse yesterday...
The photos they sent me were old. My horse's coat was dull, I could count his ribs, and he had such poor muscle and no fat in his neck that it was drooping and looking like an ewe neck. I was horrified.
He is NOT a rescue case/starved horse, but this is the worst he's ever looked. I cannot believe they competed on him, or even rode him. If he wasn't branded, I probably wouldn't have recognized my horse.
I'll be starting him back on grain slowly, de worming him, getting his teeth done, and starting him on ulcer meds so I don't rip his stomach up. They didn't have a current negative Coggins, so he's in quarantine until Friday, when I get my Coggins back. I'm sure they never did any kind of vaccinations, either.
This was a "reputable" barrel racer from Georgia. They run a popular barrel racing association there. |

I just do not get why people have horses if they are not going to take care of them- get a motorcylce or a boat. It is beyond me how someone can look at an animal everyday that they are repsonsible for and not be bothered by the horrible condition they are in. I would stay away from grain and feed him alfalfa to bring him back.

My horse came to me looking pretty poor--dull coat, Ribby....but he was pulled out of the middle of winter and taken 1200 miles south. I put him on Renew Gold and was pleased with the results. I bet he gained 100 lbs at least. Here's a 6 month difference:

I can't see the photos, but I am looking into adding Forco for digestive system support while we get him accustomed to grain again. |

The nice thing about RG is you do t feed a lot of volume so it is easier on their bellies. My horse is on Bermuda, alfalfa (which I think is key) and .5 lb RG.

That is a big difference. I'm feeding alfalfa, Purina Strategy and aloe vera for ulcer prevention, and he'll be turned out for the first time today. We are blessed with lush pasture right now, so he should do well out there, too.
I gave him a bath, which also hadn't been done in quite sometime, and he's got a skin fungus going on on his hips and his chest, so I've gotta buy some Iodine Shampoo too! |

I second the Renew Gold! I bought a pretty rough looking horse from a sale, and RG, unlimited pasture, and alfalfa pellets has him looking like a million bucks after only a month! |
