| In general when you have people make you offers on your horse, or ask if you would sell your horse. When do you sell if at all? In the past, if I was actively competing, I would not sell a horse for a price if it would cost me that amount to replace them. So, what if you could make a little money..would you let them go? What are your philosophies? When do you send em down the road? |

| I know a lot of people would but personally I am way too attached to my good horse. He has gotten me through some tough times with other horses and I know I won't be able to find another that I click with as well.
Ideally though for a business standpoint, that's when you would let them go when you can make some money but apparently I'm not smart enough to do that

However, they where never for sale, and I wouldn't have sold them to just anybody with a check book. Admittedly I am what my friends call a "horse hoarder" as I do not breed them to sell them. |

ditto!!! I always buy or breed to sell them but somehow can never let them go. Unfortunately they are growing exponentially! |

I'm the same way. T-Bo is my baby and will never leave my house. Now PW, the new guy, idk. The price would have to be "stupid" as my husband says, haha. I'm attached to him, but not like T-Bo. He also isn't much of a people horse so it's no fun loving on him. But he has put me in the 1-D more than anywhere else so far. Kyle has one horse that he says will never leave, but I know my husband and if someone threw out a ridiculous price he would definitely think about it. Everything else is "for sale but not on sale" lol. |

| Unfortunately, I've been witness too many times to someone selling a horse to what, at the time was a wonderful home. And then over the years, that home turned into a hell hole and the horse was in trouble. So, for my own piece of mind, there isn't a price tag in the world that could get mine off my property that could also allow me to sleep at night. I'd rather they stand in my pasture fat and happy. |

| I sold my first horse and have regretted it ever since. He was the best horse I had I got offered a good price for him and decided I could have a year off horses and then buy another one better. Well I didn't and he is still competing aged 19 and I ha e had 2 useless horses since. |

That... I have never sold a horse. They are family to me and I am commited to them. I also have a soul mate horse.
The problem I'm having though is, that I have 4 horses on my place. One is retired, one is crippled, one is tryin to come back after being on the injured list for the past 16 months, and only one is actually rideable these days. I don't have the space and resources for another one. So I just get to love on them and feed them cookies. |

Location: North Dakota | Myself personally, I've put too much "other" work into my horses that I know I would NEVER find a true replacement for them, without having to put in some of that same work.
I actually just had an offer on one of my horses yesterday but I told them he's not for sale.
But I certainly wouldn't look down on someone for the other viewpoint. For myself personally, my horses don't have a price. I only sell them if they aren't meeting my needs. |

I tried to sell one when I got an offer I couldnt refuse... I just drove 2 days a month and a half ago to get her back after a year and a half! I dont breed to sell anymore either, and I keep buying. Hence why there is 14 on the place now. Its a good thing I have the space.
ETA: I have sold a couple (some foals mostly) but only one I was super attached too, and well that ended with me spending a lot more to get her back.
