I am transferring with my job to San Antonio early part of September, and was hoping to get some advice about where to look for a safe affordable apartment and I also need help finding a nice barn to keep
my horse that won't break the bank but trustworthy and nice. I am not real familiar with the area so I need some help. My office is going to be on
11238 N Interstate 35 zip code 78233.

Any help would be greatly appreciated !!! Thanks !!!

I love San Antonio and can't wait to move back. Anywhere off 1604 between I-10 and I-35 will be good. The North/Northwest part of town is really nice, and I felt safer there than the south part of town.

I would look into Selma, TX for an apartment.

Where are you moving from, what will you be doing?

Not sure how long you want to commute every day, but looking in one of the smaller towns around SA might be good.  May be you can rent a little house with pasture...?

Good luck!  This is a great area to live in!

WoW! I must really live in a bubble as I didn't have a clue that renting an apartment was so expensive. You could be paying on a house for less...

I agree with Go Misty Go...I would be looking for a rental home with some land.

Yes it is very expensive !! I will be working at Enterprise Rental. Just trying to find somewhere safe and affordable for me and my horse. I am not looking for big commute because of the fact that I get 11mpg in my truck. I don't wanna drive more than 35 mins to work and don't want the barn to be more than that as well. I am having a hard time finding somewhere safe and affordable that doesn't have "structural" problems. I want to find an apartment and barn within 35-40 of my work but not in different directions if that makes sense. Sorry just trying to find somewhere to live is hard and I only have a month before I start work. Thank you for all your help!

Just a shot in the dark...I would call Retama Equine Hospital and ask if there is anything in the area that they know of.

There are some apartments and homes for sale/rent around Retama Racetrack in Selma. I used to work at that racetrack. A lot of people use Retama Equine Hospital as their regular vet, too.

streakysox - 2015-07-30 3:07 PM I would look in the Boerne area.
I just checked and found this..What would be nice about Boerne (besides it being a very nice, safe Yuppy town) they rent stalls for self care at the Boerne Fairgrounds that would be probably the cheapest you will find to keep a horse. I think it's $75.00 for the stall. I'll go look for their website.

Here is their website and it is $75.00 to rent a stall.

You can rent a stall and turn out with full care at Tejas Rodeo in Bulverde TX, plus you have access to their fabulous facility.

Heather just as soon as we can. Gotta see where the military moves my other half but between Austin and San Antonio is our goal at the end of the day. Hey, I can be your South Texas rep!Β

I have found a few good places but dang the prices! I am so excited to be moving back to TX, but finding a safe affordable place to rent that doesnt look like it should be bulldozed down or finding a boarding facility that offers full care board with turnout that is equally the same for my horse seems hard too! I will find something just was not sure of where to stay away from or where to look! Thank you so much for all your help!

I am not sure how far out this is from where you will work but look into Sequin.  I stayed there for a month or so when we first moved to Texas.  I really liked the area and we found a great place to keep out horses and plug our trailer in.  The guy had a small apartment that he rented as well that was attached to the barn.  I will see if we still have his info and pass it your way.

You're in a more reasonable part of town. I would say look for an apartment in live oak, universal city, or converse. Then look on craigslist for a place to board your horse in the cibolo or marion area. It'll be the closest thing to you. So you don't have to drive far in your truck. Good Luck!
