Cake eating bull chaser Posts: 3787	Haven't been here for a while ! Seeking information on horses that develope an allergy to fly bites. My 6 yr. old filly is getting terrible welts from the bites and has rubbed her hair off on her jowls ! Is there any natural remedy? We don't have a big fly problem here, but she is pretty sensitive to the bites. Any ideas would be welcome. I spray her daily with fly spray, and limit her turn out, otherwise she is in her stall with a run. I'm going to try "swat" on her jowls today. Any body else had experience with this ?

Regular Posts: 99	My 9 year old got allergic to fly bites and blew up like a blow fish. Took her to the vet and they gave her steroids and, antibiotics, and a shot for her allergies. She's still healing after 3 weeks.

Twin Sister to Queen Boobie Posts: 13315 Location: East Tennessee but who knows?!	I have been hearing good things about Bug Check but haven't tried it yet. I have seen good results off of garlic though as far as repelling flies. Vinegar will help the skin to heal. Itch Magick will help the itchiness.

Elite Veteran Posts: 600 Location: Oklahoma & Texas	Endure fly spray works great ..have to use daily even though it says it will last 7 days or more it doesn't lol...and then smart pak makes a supplement for horses sensitive to bugs n flies that isn't too pricey with garlic n other stuff in it seems to help a lot ...a friend of mine uses it with good results...i just keep mine hosed down with endure :)
