We took our new horse to a show yesterday everything was going great, we know that she was a nervous horse, but we had been working her at home and was doing great seperated from the others. Major blow up, we were going towards the gate and all of a sudden starting backing up fast throwing up her head backed into a truck scared her self and lanuched herself into the side of another truck and proceded to lay down. She layed there for 5 to 6 min got her saddle off layed there as calm as could be, got up and walked away like nothing had happen. She had layed down on us once before at home when we worked her in a tie down. Have a giant bruise on my stomachmy back is killing me , now where do I go from here wit her?

I would start by calling previous owners. Askif she laid down with them. If she behaved when you tried her out she might have been drugged. Without knowing the horse it is hard to give you an answer.

what streaky said..... bet she has been doing this for a long time.  And if its something new I would definently have a good vet check her out physically.   Sounds like something mental is going on actually, something that is affecting the nervous system/brain.

Bought my daughter a gelding when she was in Jr High that did the same thing. He surprised me the first two times and I thought there was something wrong... The third time he did it he almost got her in a bind. I jumped of my horse and he got a butt whipping with the over and under hanging on my saddle while he was laying on the ground... I know, I know... It's the "behind the barn" stuff. He never did it again. Sometimes he would sull up and not move, but all I had to do was holler his direction and he would change his mind.

Good luck... Hope you get it figured out.

Oh my goodness. She's evading for some reason. She would rather go against her instincts and lay on the ground rather than get up! Either she's hurting really bad or she has a serious mental issue. I hope you have some kind of relationship with the previous owner so you can find out if she's ever done this before!

I agree with grin, seems like sometimes similar.
Did this horse come with a vet check with all the bells. Maybe track down the owner before the previous to see if they will tell you anything different than the owner you spoke to.
