CSI or 5 star, I've personally never tired either, but I've felt the 5 star and they seem SO forgiving. Which do you like and why? The horse it will be on is a super stout mare, but long backed and has medium to high withers.
Next question, how do you know what size to buy if 5 star? the 1 inch, 3/4 etc?? I've heard that to thin can hurt a horses back and to thick can hurt a horses back. i ride in a triple creek.

I have both.

My Double J Pozzi fits my one gelding perfectly, so I ride a 1/2" 5 star. Anything thicker causes my saddle to roll. With the 1/2" 5 Star I have at times forgotten to snug up my girth, could slide my whole hand under it, no problems.

My younger horse I have the CSI with a 1/2" liner for. He's young, growing, and I wanted something that would provide more saddle support as he's changing shape weekly it seems.

I have both, but prefer my 5 Stars. If my one mare didn't require the CSI, I wouldn't own it. Too heavy/bulky and I feel like I don't have a close contact. The 5 Stars just look so much more comfortable to me, so I can only help but think my horse feels the same.

I own a 3/4 and a 7/8 in the 5 Stars. I fit them to my horse/saddle combination.
