| Since my mare has no problems letting me know if something isn't right, I decided to saddle her up this weekend and see what how she did and I was amazed. She walked, trotted and loped like nobody's business. She was relaxed, stretching out and felt good. When asked to stop, she planted herself like she always does...great stop. When asked to backup, she rocked back but could only give me half a step back. We did some work around the barrels...just to see and again, she turned them good (just at the trot). On Sunday, I saddled her up again and she did even better...even with the backing. I do have the vet coming out on Wednesday to draw blood for the Lyme but I'm not convinced that is it. I'm no expert, of course, but I can't help but feel it is something in her hind end...felt so good to be back in the saddle with her and I know she was happy and enjoyed the time out as well.... |

| Good luck with the vet, it can be so frustrating when you know somethng is wrong but know one can find it. |

| Had the vet out yesterday and what she sees with Holly is severe arthritis in her right hock and front leg. Her left stifle is beginning to get weak due to her compensating. Because I do not use her for strenuous work, I'm going to start her with the full round (7 doses) and then a booster dose as needed...we had a very long talk about the effects of bute vs effects of stress from the pain on the body, etc. I have never had the feeling she had Lyme disease so I decided not to do the test and put the money toward the cost of the Adequan. I did ride her again yesterday since I had the day off and she again did very well. We only rode about 15 minutes. The other good news is I was able to pick up her front feet to pick them out with very little trouble ... she'll be a great trail horse or just hacking around here but will be retired from heavy workouts. One thing is for sure, she will not sit this winter. Even if I take her for walks, she will not sit... |

That's the best thing for arthritis, keep them moving. |

| thanks...in hindsight, I guess taking a break in the Winter months was not such a good idea. I never think of her as 25 as she has so much spunk still. I can still ride her and use her for trail and just hacking around so I'm thrilled with that outcome...she's been my biggest teacher and I'm sure she still has many lessons for me to learn. |
