| Just wondering if any has had any dealing with his lines. I have a friend who has a own daughter and a 2014 colt out of her older great grandson of Lady Bugs Moon. Little guy can flat fly. Just wondering! |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I owned a stallion son for 12 yrs. He was the light of my life for yrs. He was a solid 1D/2D barrel horse, we team roped and he won money team penning as well. Did tons of ranch work from 2-5 when he had a knee injury. He was gentle enough the kids could ride him around. There isn't a thing I can really say bad about him. We bred him to mostly running bred mares all those yrs, and a few cow/ranch bred, but he crossed better on the running lines. He was 15.2 and 1300 lbs and made the foals too thick and soggy in my opinion on the ranchy mares. I could bore you all day long with my stories about him. We had him put down last fall due to the arthritis in his knee. Broke my heart. Vegas was out of a AAA daughter of Mystic Eye. VF Burrs Eye was his name.

| I'm so sorry about your lose :(. He was a beautiful boy! The own daughter she has is out of Mrs Kansas, by Last Hurrah by Easy Jet. Bred pretty to the T. The colt has is very willing and smart athletic as all get out. She's pretty excite for his future! |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Should be a good one. I love Last Hurrah. We ranch on all ours first, they are VERY cowy. There hasn't been one that we have found a bottom on either, they can go all day and then some and are fresh to go the next morning. I suppose if you kept one in a stall, it may not be that great of a trait, but we love it for the hard work we do around here. We have only had one that wasn't sweet, we still own him and my husband loves him. I do not, but he is a full brother to my favorite one we have raised. So who knows what his deal is. They are very intelligent and learn very fast, but are usually user friendly enough that you can drill on them and they don't get mad. You could have beat on Vegas and he would have just tried harder for you, which is sad...but also makes them good for just about any goober that wants to ride. Only had one that couldn't run a lick and he was out of a 14 hand ranchy mare and he was about as thick as he was tall. He was also one of my favorites we raised, but he sold to a neighbor that ranches and team ropes on him. He was fast enough for that.
Of course I have only had one but he and his offspring had excellent feet, never an OCD issue (but they were also pasture raised babies and never fed up. |

I spent most of his 2 year old year pregnant and just returned to riding him. He hasn't forgotten anything since we left off. Actually I think he's a little bit bored with the repetitiveness of my lessons before I want him to move on to something else. He's not spooky at all and is very curious...loves the trash truck, tarps, cattle, dogs, jeeps, fine with bicycles, loud motorcycles, etc.
And yes...when I went to pick him up from her pasture to move to my semi-urban area I was a bit concerned, but this colt is great.  We haul him to the rodeos, ropings, and barrel races just to hang out...great. He actually is better behaved than my two dingbat mares. lol
Oh, and he can fly AND turn.  |

I may be wrong but I think he passed away. He was a '91. VF tried to sell him a few yrs ago. Not sure if they ever got it done. He was so much better looking in person than that sorry picture they always advertised him with. He was the spitting image of FDD. I'll see if I can find the one I liked.

| I've got a beautiful boy!! He's a 2009 model, we're just starting to haul him. He's been allot of fun so far, EXCELLENT personality, he's a goofy "in your pocket" guy! We've taken him slow since we brought him home last November (slow for both of us, since it's been a number of years since I've barrel raced) his name is Burr Dawg (hubby calls him Burr Monkey b/c he's so silly) he's an Appendix Bred, his Momma is Sheckys Skylark. He learns quick but you have to keep his attention because he seems to bore fairly easy with over & over routines. He's super calm & great on the ground and in the saddle at home but can be a bit spooky going to new places, but I'm sure all that will change with seasoning..I have high hopes for our team!!

Location: Okemah,OK | I was at the Victory Farms sale in 2004 when they ran Burrs First Down thru the sale ring. I was perplexed by it and always figured they were just showing what he COULD bring to promote him and his babies. He got up around $45,000 and they po'd him. |

Location: Wearing a winter coat...... | Loved mine! Was the fastest horse I have ever rode. Her mama was a great mare named "Plenty Tiny" and she was wicked fast as well. Never knew which side it came from but she could unseat me in a turn easily if I wasn't riding right. She is now owned by a friend and can easily win a rodeo. Nice nice mare. |

Location: South MS | Coonracer, you have got a NIIICE gelding! Ash & Quay had him at Brandon and I looked at him - didn't quite fit what I needed but dang, he was nice!!!
I love the Burrs First Down get - they can flat out RUN and most of them I've come across have had good dispositions and thick built. Yes, the picture VF ran of him did not do him justice at all!

Thank you. He was the first one that was really important to me that I had to have put down. It was so tough to finally make the call. We had a friend come out a week before the vet appt and dig the hole. It is next to the arena and I couldn't even go over there and ride just because I couldn't stand to see the hole. I haven't done anything for his grave yet. Hoping to plant some blue flax in the spring and get a marker made.
My son has a really old pony he adores and I think that may be harder because it will be a tough one on the kiddo. |

| Hey Highonsugar! I do love love love my ole Burr Dawg he is really special!! I am so happy I asked Ash about him, her exact words were "he'd be PERFECT for you"! He's learned allot & is getting super broke and pretty much every time I ride I'm happier with him than the day before! As easily as he runs (he can FLAT FLY) we've concentrated on HO, rate, collection, side passing, etc...at first he was really sticky at everything but once he figured out I wanted him to move out but be respectful he's really come into himself & is building confidence (me too :)
Everyone that I've talked to LOVES Burrs First Down babies, I do wonder why he's not actively campaigned as a stud? But then again if he were I bet I couldn't afford one...lol things always seem to work out just right with faith!!
Maybe we'll meet sometime at a barrel race..thanks so much for the complement on my boy and I hope you've found a critter that works as perfectly for you as Burr is for me!!  |

I wanted to let you know that in part because of reading your info on your sweet boy Vegas I decided to go see about my Burr Dawg last November...your Vegas sounded exactly like the type of horse I was looking for and after talking with Ashley it seemed like Burr would be sweet & level minded too. He's been so much fun, & just full of personality! I'm so sorry about your loss of Vegas, I know myself just how hard it is to make the last call to the vet, I tear up still over my 1st ole gal and I know my Jammer's (my other barrel horse) time here with us is getting shorter. He's 28 now, I just pray he never has anything wrong with him that makes him suffer. (except Burr Dawg heckling him...lol )
Anyway thanks so much for sharing your "ride" with your beloved Vegas. I wish you all the best!!!!  |

Im so glad you got one! BFD had a relatively successful breeding career in LA before they had the huge breeders purses. He was a million dollar sire with several stakes winners. Then VF bought him and I just don't think he promoted him as strongly as he could have. VF had one of the all time leading barrel sires at the time in On The Money Red. Then Designer Red. He had a handful of Futurity winners and top placers for a while by BFD and even had him in the Future Fortunes for a time. At one time he stood so many other stallions, I think several took the back burner. And then that gawd aweful picture he used to advertise him wouldn't help those that breed their mares to stallions based on photos alone. He was a big bodied, well built stallion in person and had a pretty head and gentle quiet way about him. BFD had higher earnings per starter than DTF did for a time. He was the real deal. Just mismanaged or over looked. How ever you want to see it.

Location: Mi | I'm riding a 7 yr old mare for a friend right now by him. She has plenty of speed, very willing, caddy and very athletic. Can get alittle frazled but as long as you stay quiet she does very well. Will do anything you ask her, and very good to be around. |

I bought Dan when my son was about 1 1/2; he was my first horse after my wreck, and Chandler and I shared him. Chandler has a mare of his own now, but when the time comes that Dan tells me he's tired and it's "over", I know Chandler will be so very heartbroken (even tho he's a "manly" 17 now). So I totally understand what you mean about being hurt cause your baby is hurting. . . . |
