Just checked out this website. (http://eraprorodeo.com/)
What's everyone's thoughts? It will be awesome to see some rodeo action on TV on a regular basis and it may bring rodeo into a more positive light with the public that doesn't do/understand rodeo.

According to their website:

Coming October 1, 2015

A qualifying system will be in place for any rodeo contestant who would like to qualify for the ERA tour. Open to any contestant, it will be based on points earned through the qualifying rodeo season. The complete qualifying rules and regulations will be released here on October 1, 2015.

I'm curious to see how this goes. I've seen some negative comments from some top wpra ladies, so I'm not sure what happened there... But it is still an exciting thing!

I think itwas designed to be a get rich quick scheme by a few ppeople. It lacks staying power because of this. I also think it's wrong for tax dollars to fund it. I'm all for more money and exposure for rodeo. But not this way. I think it's hypocritical for Mary Walker to not be considered "elite" with being a fairly recent World Champion. But someone that hasn't competed in 10 years is.

I have been following it pretty closely, I know some people are very upset they scheduled their Finals the same time as the Canadian Finals. It will be very interesting to see how it goes.

Will it not be a conflict of interest when your board members are also competing?

Excited to see rodeo promoted on a bigger platform. However I think it's sad that clearly some people think they are too good to compete against "anyone who can just buy a membership"

Also how do these people stay "elite" since they don't want to go to as many rodeos on the PRCA schedule then wouldn't they drop in the standings and no longer be considered "the top competitors"

I'm guessing there will be multiple ways to qualify since Charmayne is in and she is not really competing right now.

I don't think it's designed perfectly. But most new associations aren't. For years rodeo people have been wanting someone to do something to get rodeo on the track towards being as big as other American sports, getting our athletes higher payouts, more publicity. This group is trying. It will have to evolve, it will have to be tweaked. They will have to figure out what works and what doesn't. Rodeo WILL have to make big changes if we want to see it get to places we've never seen it before.

As for why Mary Walker wasn't invited. I don't think it has anything to do with her ability as a barrel racer.....

what they have done is create an organization that is diametrically opposed to what Rodeo culture is built on.

Rodeo will never be main stream and they need to recognize their audience and play to that.

I hope it goes down in flames so big that the mushroom cloud can be seen from both coasts.

I'm kind of excited about it!  Of course there will need to be changes made, but hey - what new association doesn't have growing pains?  It's refreshing to see people trying to get off the fence and DO SOMETHING instead of sitting around whining about how things need to change.  I'm excited about the media involvement they're trying to build.  We NEED more marketing savy people to get involved and get passionate about our sport.  There was buzz about this being set up way last spring - for those people that walked out on a limb and got involved in the set up - don't they deserve the chance to compete?  You have to arrive at a starting line up somehow.....   The way it sounds, you will have to continually earn your spot on the tour and there is a qualification process for new blood to get there.  Yeah - I know it's using tax dollars, but I'm much more ok with this for a project than many of the projects that politicians blow my $$$ on.

I LOVE the American and what it's done for rodeo....someday maybe I can run there, I'm **** sure gonna try.  Give this deal a chance, it might wind up being pretty incredible.

I wasn't trying to be snarky. I was just sharing what she posting on fb. I don't have an opinion either way about who is invited or not.

I think Just Bring It was saying that Mary was being snarky, not you.
