So the vet who's been working with Bunny is moving to Nevada so I am going to a new vet for the first time. I am hoping maybe he says she never had anything wrong with that leg, LOL. I can dream, right??? She is doing really well.... and her ultrasound didnt find anything.. trying to be optimistic maybe it was something else. SIGH.

Didn't get any definitive answers.. if anything, more questions. Basically her suspensory block from weeks ago could have blocked her hock instead... or she could have been getting benefit from hock injections for a suspensory.. basically, whatever lameness is in an area that has a ton of overlap. The good thing is, her ultrasound is clean. The bad thing is, hind suspensories are hard to image with ultrasound because they are so compartmentalized between the splint bones so theres always a chance you just didn't see the problem, because the bones block it.

Either way, they said ideally they would like to MRI her leg, but I can't afford it. And even if I did, theres still a chance it would not show her problem. Again, hind suspensories have fat bundles in them and look different than say the DDFT or the SDFT on MRI so its still not 100% cut and dry. So, we injected some places, going to see how she responds.. If it's a problem in her hock, she's probably going to be retired or semi retired because theres not a ton that can be done and she already gets injected a lot. If its her suspensory, lots of time may make it better.. so, either way... we are looking toward the end of her career but they think its not quite over yet.

Darn, I was hoping for better news for you.  I'm watching my star horse limp around the pasture for the next year praying her career isn't over at 8 years old....

I'm sorry, I was hoping you'd get better news.  Sometimes a fresh set of eyes is a good thing.

she's not that old either but her legs are sure banged up. I think thats a big part of it. Who knows, maybe after having a baby she will have had the time she needs.

Another idea is, which this vet brought up.. is what if the vet missed the joint when she got her hocks done in June. He said there were three outcomes with that. either:
A- she missed the joint which happens and explains why i got nothing out of it
B- she got the joint and the hock didnt respond to them
C- its in her suspensory not the hock which is why it didnt respond

so we re-injected it and are going to see what happens. her hock rads showed changes but nothing terrible, but he said that the amount of changes on radiographs don't correlate to level of pain. so it could, or could not, be the answer.

more nerve blocks could answer questions or make more... theres a ton of overlap there too. sometimes when they try to block the suspensory, they get the distal hock. sometimes when they block the distal hock they get the suspensory.

welcome to my future profession.

I took her to TAMU with me, so she saw Dr. Watkins. It was nice because I just left her there and walked to class when it got close to me having to leave haha

Oh! Lol! That's really convenient! That place is so nice! I felt guilty when my horse did his business on the floor while we were waiting....that was several years ago though. Dr Honas was still there.
