Location: Kansas | I use the plain ol' bucket trick. I've heard that soak boot works pretty well |

Location: Arizona | I've done the epsom salt in the water, anything else that you use to draw out the abscess? |

| My husband made a shallow pan out of an old protein tub, just used his saws-all to cut it. This seems to be easier to get the feet in and they stand better in it. I can soak both feet at the same time this way. I soak in warm water and Epsom salt for 15 minutes or longer if they'll stand. After soaking I pack the sole the with a sugar/iodine paste, cover with a diaper, then wrap with duct tape. |

Location: North Dakota | If you can get ahold of an old used IV bag from the vet (or wherever else) put about 3-4 cups of water with a half cup epsom salt in it. Put horses foot in bag, secure around foot/leg wrap with duck tape let them wear that for as long as the bag holds up, repeat until abscess blows. I usually start with the pan of water/salt and about 3-4 days in, I get frustrated and use the bag method and in 2-3 days the abscess is open. It's a little tricky but worth it, if there is a possibility you won't be able to soak for a day or two due to unknown circumstances. |

Location: Slipping down the slope of old age. Boo hoo. | The last time I had to soak an abscess my mare did just fine with her foot in a big black bucket. She loves warm water anywhere on her body.... and, of course, loves the fact I sat with her and rubbed her face. Spoiled. Yes. |

| A scoop of oxyclean in a gallon of water. Even better with Synbiont added

| See the abscess sticky thread at the top of the topic page. No need to ever soak again with that recipe. |

| I had to deal with an on going abscess for a while this summer, what seemed to make my mare a lot more comfortable was wrapping my mares hoof with Epsom salt and vinegar or iodine, and a few hours later she was walking fine...the soaking never gave me that quick of results...could have been that the abscess was located more towards the toe this time as to why that seemed to relieve her so quickly of her pain. She would go from almost 3 legged to walking almost normal in about a day.

Location: North Dakota | I always use one of those shallow rubber feed pans with warm water and epsom salts, then wrap with that poultice stuff that I can't for the life of me remember the name of right now. |

Location: Central Texas | I don't soak anymore. I use ichthammol ointment, wrap it up with a baby diaper and duct tape and let it draw out the abscess. |

Location: Okla | Just went thru this, and our mare could not even walk on her foot. Vet put on gob of magic cushion, wrapped it up, stall rest-so she wouldn't walk out of the wrapping he used- 2days later it blew it out and she was good to go with no other problems....great stuff !!!! |
