My new mare I have a double J on, which is what she was being rode in before.  Standard tree.  I never thought her original saddle fit perfect, but pretty dang close with a 3/4 5 star.  Anyways, her shoulders are getting bulkier as I build her up and I am 99% sure it's a little too tight in her shoulders.   Anyone know what I could try instead of the standard Double J.  It fits her PRETTY good, I just know there is some pressure on her shoulder blade.   She's starting to not want to trot out as hard for me also, so that was really my first clue. Should I try the double J #10 fit?

Isn't there a double j wide?

My understanding is the 10 has a lot of rock in the tree

Good to know about the #10, I was under the impression that it just had more flare on the bars than the original, so I wasn't aware of the rock.

They do indeed have a wide.  Wonder if that would maybe fit with a thicker pad.  I also am wondering if maybe a 5 star just isn't the best pad for her at this point.  I hate saddle fitting, seriously... not to mention I think her right shoulder is just a touch bigger than the left.

I don't know double j at all, but if the wide is too wide, you may try a csi pad, on my colts if the saddle is too wide I don't worry as the csi pad keeps the saddle where it is supposed to be have never had any issues with too big of saddles soring up my colts.

As for a thinner pad, if you think you can get away with a thinner pad, saddle right pads are the thinnest you can get and they still offer support.

The other option is to by the shims classic equine sells for the martins and shim the wide saddle till she fills into it if she fills into it
