Location: Florida | I understand not one thing will work for every horse, and that there are many horses with specific feed requirements for different needs, but what feed have you found works the best for MOST of your horses? Which do you most prefer or have found to work best for keeping all your horses healthy and happy?
My three barrel horses are each active, level-headed, and do a pretty equal amount of moderate showing, etc. I have had them all on Seminole Sport And Show, which they have been doing well on, but I want to be certain I couldn't be doing better for them (and I also don't want to jump the gun and switch their feed around too much in order to test everything).
Any personal experience you may have with specific horse feeds would be greatly appreciated! |

| Omni cubes right now with very limited pasture and free choice grass hay.
If I were to lose access to omni cubes I would go back to renew gold, alfalfa cubes from Standlee and flaxseed. |

| I love the combo of Renew Gold and Alfalfa Cubes, maybe a few flakes of grass hay, and my boys all look, act, and feel great! |

| Oats, alfalfa pellets, Essential K, free choice alfalfa hay, free range pasture, then supplements depending on the horse. |

Location: Phoenix | Alfalfa, grass hay (mostly for munching) and Renew Gold. I like the idea of a very simple diet and have you seen the ingredient list of RG? It's supershort and I like that. My horse can get hot and he thinks so clearly on this diet. |

| I have only been feeding the Danco Omnis Cubes for about a month and have been highly impressed. My horses all look and feel amazing and as an added bonus, my light palomino recently shed off a golden dappled palomino after three weeks on the cubes, no other changes. |

| I would not recommend feeding any commercial feeds. |

Location: North Dakota | Progressive Nutrition is my favorite all around feed. To all my horses I feed 2 lbs of their grass balancer, 2 lbs whole oats, and a flake of alfalfa. I also give them both half a pound of renew gold. They'd do fine w/o it but it gives them a little extra bloom I think and they love it. |

| I feed triple crown complete flax and platinum performance salt block and free joice equilix, does the poster who recommended not feeding a commercial feed have a good recipe she could share? The local mills here mix for cattle and it shows cob in it or stalks and i don't know how to get the right mineral ratio and i don't think the mill owner understand s horse s enough to either, i worry i am going overboard with what I'm doing but he looks great |

I think I heard that but last I heard when I learned about this feed a couple months ago, is that it's not made in the same locations. It's not like I have hardly any options around here. |

A lot of times there are few choices as the major feed companies distribute almost all commercial feeds

We have fed a locally mixed feed for YEARS. I have always felt secure that they were taking necessary precautions when mixing the horse feed. Nobody has ever had any issues, and it's a great mix that a ton of people around here feed.
WELL, they just got bought out by another mill in the same area, with many of the dairy operations shutting down, it no longer makes sense to have 2 large mills in the same small town. We are having to swap feeds bc the other mill has known cases of horses getting sick and/or dying from cattle meds. A reliable source told me they don't even attempt to be safe about it. I have about half a barrel of feed left, and we are going to something else. Not entirely sure what yet. I don't want Nutrena, as good as my guy looked in Safe Choice, I'm now better educated. Not to mention I got 2 bags of molded feed that we're not old at all. A lot of the feeds you guys are feeding aren't as readily available around here, and I also have a lot of mouths to feed. So looking for something affordable but SAFE, and decent quality. Purina mills are all safe if I remember correctly, right? Or if someone has a breakdown of cost for Renew Gold and alfalfa cubes, I will have to convince hubby that even though it's pricey, it could be cost effective in the long run. |

Danco has a dealer in Opelousas, LA, if that interests you. Crystal is a member of this forum. You might consider Omnis for your feeding needs. Fed at 8-12 lbs daily along with good grass hay or 18-24 as a complete ration.

I see a lot of people feed the Omnis cubes. What is different about them and other cubes? Better quality, price, etc??? |

Location: Louisiana | Tdove - 2015-09-28 11:03 AM There is no other cube like it. It is a value added cube with extra energy and Omega 3 fatty acid. All natural whole ingredients. 82.5% Premium Alfalfa, 15% Whole Northern Oats, 2.5% Whole Canadian Flax. Protein.................14% Fat........................3% Fiber....................26% Energy..................1.00 Mcal/lb
Awesome! My horses love cubes, but I haven't been buying them lately. I was having a big problem in the barn and had to throw out a lot, and then just didn't buy more. I will look these up. So are they meant to a more "complete" ration than just regular forage? Do you feed them alone, or should they be supplemented with something like Renew Gold (I see many people are feeding both)? Most of my horses are easy keepers, with the exception of 1. And he isn't a hard keeper, he's just a big horse and requires more calories than the others. |

Location: West Texas | Now you ask a difficult question to answer. They are meant to be many things and therefore are very versatile. Personal preference has a lot to do with feed choices and we have many different people utilizing them in different ways. They can be fed as a protein/energy supplement, a natural replacement for by product concentrates, or a complete ration with no other hay, grain, or supplements. Since we balance these cubes naturally, you can safely and effectively feed other products with them.
Personally, we feed as a complete ration with nothing else added. That was the main design intention, a long stem, natural complete performance feed system in a bag. But again we wanted it to be versatile, and it works equally well along with good hay at 8-12lbs daily.
Here are some pictures of horses that are fed nothing but Omnis. As you can see they are very healthy. 1.5-2.0% body weight daily.
