LOL normally I ride the one first whose crazy medicine is gonna wear off the fastest. 
No but seriously, I dont have a set method. I just pick one and go with it. Luckily most of the shows I go to I dont get to decide anyway because horse names are printed on the draw.

Location: Alabama | I haul and run 4 on a consistent basis.... I run my big red horse first, due to him needing the most warming up and I do NOT like to rush on him cause he gets nervous. Depending on where I draw is who I run, if I'm close I'll run the horse that is the least amount of warm up tuning or that I can ride Mose consistently (normally horse I've had the longest) but if I have a lot of time I'll get on the young horse and take my time with him |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I run 4 most of the time. One of them is a lefty so I run him last. One of my mares needs to be warmed up more so I run her first. The other 2 is just how they fall in the draw. |

Location: Kansas | There was a thread about this a while back, so I've copied & pasted part of my response in here. I have 4 barrel horses, but very seldom run all 4 at the same race. When I run multiple horses, my order doesn't have anything to do with who is the fastest - it's all about how to make the warm up work for each individual horse.
When I run all 4, my strategy is to run the one who needs the most warmup first. If I have 2 who can be warmed up together or one who doesn't need much warmup, I'll cram those runs together a little bit.
For example, Chance and Joker need longer warmups than Cliff and Streak. Streak often does an exhibition (particularly if he hasn't run in a long time) and Cliff isn't the type you can ride very much before a run as he just gets hotter and hotter the more you're on him. Joker is the most solid, seasoned barrel horse on the planet. Chance cannot be ponied but you can pony up to 3 horses off him to warm them up in a herd. Cliff seems to do well if he's ponied to warm up and Joker is uncomfortable to ride so I prefer to pony him.
Therefore, I will run Chance or Streak first. Let's say I run Chance first at draw #3. I'll enter Joker somewhere around #15-20 because I can warm him up alongside Chance, then walk them together after running Chance to cool Chance out but keep Joker loose for his run. I would prefer to have my third horse somewhere in the 40s (high 40s preferably) so I can strip the saddles off Chance & Joker before I have to start warming up horse 3. Stripping 2 saddles and leg gear usually takes me about 6-8 riders (I'm fast LOL). If Cliff is my 3rd horse at draw #45 and Streak is #61, I'll get on Streak and pony Cliff for a few drags, just walking and trotting. When they're about #35, I'll tie Streak up and get on Cliff slowly so he doesn't have much time to get worked up. After running Cliff, I'll hop on Streak and pony Cliff around at a walk to cool Cliff out & keep Streak loose for his run. After Streak runs, I'll strip both of them and try to sit down & relax!
This scenario is assuming that they aren't running 50 horses an hour, since most small shows are a little slower paced than that. I'd have a terrible time running 4 at a Barrel Bash or something like that where they run more than one tractor and get through the entries really quickly.
I am also very lucky that most of my horses have a similar style so I don't have to adjust my riding very much from one to another. Though I have one lefty (Cliff) and 3 righties (Chance, Joker & Streak), that doesn't bother me. I do have multiple pairs of boots, one with bumper spurs, one with traditional spurs, and always at least one pair with no spurs so if spurs are irritating a particular horse, I can just change boots when I get on that one. |

I use the same theory.
EXCEPT if the ground is kinda wet, then I'll run my faster horse second. By then, the ground should have dried up more and be faster.
With my two, I try to plan it so my faster horse will have better ground. Can't control the draw, of course, but I base it off the ground that day. Deeper ground, I'll get my faster one in their first, b/c the ground will only get deeper as the race goes on.

Location: Idaho | I usually run 3-4 horses as well. And like everyone else... my first horse is usually the one I need the most warm up on. Ive got a nice older finished horse that needs to be warm and his muscles needs to be really relaxed, otherwise he will be stiff when he runs. Now ive got a colt that needs a good warm up because he is a little broncy, so lots of long trotting for him. The ones I dont feel I have to ride as hard or focus so much on hand placement I'll run last... Just depends I guess. |

He is kind of a point and shoot but he does run best if you help set him up and then leave him alone in the turn. My little mare next more so my brain and my back and legs were warmed up because she takes some riding. Then last my big mare who will find a barrel to turn in a empty parking lot because normally my brain is toast by then. |

And because I was unsure if "PIMA" is a common slang term or one I personally use strangely. I looked it up on urban dictionary and it is NOT what it says on there. I meant Pain In My A$$.
