Just saw on stallionesearch.com that Pappsito is moving to the Moosman's R/M Stables in Lindon, Utah. They are also building a new facility in southwest Wyoming.

Do you think that is a wise move for him? I know of a few stallions that moved to not so well known locations and blew their breeding futures...
But HEY! He's maybe close enough I could haul a mare and not have to ship semen

Why would they do that? I so want to breed my mare to him but just not set up for babies yet.

Where is southwest Wyoming?

I'm sure the new facility will be in Evanston,  and Utah is probably the worst state for quarter horse racing. Poor horse is toast.

I'm not surprised....I would bet that the facility in SW Wy is so they can qualify for the money in the WY Breeders Fund.  The state of WY has pumped a small fortune ( I think I saw over a half a million) into that fund to attract and make the horse racing industry more lucrative for WY bred and foaled horses.  Also opened up more tracks here this year.   I know our share of the fund for just the one horse on the track last year and sired by Slim more than paid for hay for the year.  The speed bred yearlings we had for sale were snatched up by trainers and players here too and went from our place right to the Casper fairgrounds and into training.  There is more than one UT breeder building facilities across the border into WY...should get interesting.

(d) The Commission may approve breeder award funds to be distributed to owners of Wyoming bred horses winning non Wyoming bred races run at a Wyoming permitted track. The Commission shall distribute the remainder of breeder award funds on a calendar year basis using the following formulae: (i)Forty percent (40%) to breeders of Wyoming-bred horses. (ii) Forty percent (40%) to owners of Wyoming-bred horses. (iii) Twenty percent (20%) to owners of sires standing in the state of Wyoming at time of service to mares producing Wyoming-bred horses.

Sadly that is nowhere near the money that that stud's offspring could run for in OK nor will he attract the attention of mare owners standing somewhere so off the beaten path. Regardless of what incentive money they may get for WY breds, it won't touch the potential money lost in stud fees. We don't have the purse money to run for so the nicer horses will still run out of state. I was at the Gillette races and the bloodlines just aren't there. I hope it grows and will truly support it, but until they are offering purses bigger than $6500, it will be career disaster for a stallion of his caliber to move to WY JUST for the WY bred.

I'm afraid this might be a major career blunder for such a nice stallion :

I agree. While I support WY racing wholeheartedly, the notoriety just isn't in our location for nice stallions. DTF was a kept secret for a long time stading in UT. He made himself famous just because he is that great a sire, but it happened later in life. Had he been in OK I think he would have been found out a lot sooner. UT or WY, I think he will fall off the radar.

I think the stallion award part of that money is a little over 100k....maybe they figure they will get most of it ?? Who knows what the motivation is....

Yeah crystal if you look at the only other notable race sire in Utah, his owners were smart enough to send him to robicheaux.  (First down illusion). The moosemans are probably Utahs most involved racing family but...Ill just say they are no Ed Allred.

I would say the owners of Pappasito have done their research, as I am sure they are looking at this as a business decision. Lazy E brought in Volcom, Pappasito was the lowest stud fee on their roster, and the owners have to do what is best for their horse. He should have had the opportunity to breed some of the top mares while at Lazy E so the foals should be able to keep him in the spotlight in the future, I would hope.

He's been at the Lazy E for awhile now and they already have something like 4 CC sons that won more. Pappasito had a colt running there in the Intermountain area that did VERY well there so he might get more attention there than competing with the stallion roster at Lazy E. Most people have no idea just how few colts he's had. The race people don't feel he's produced much and the barrel people ask why now ate competing. No one seems to look at the fact he only has 15 four year olds and about the same number of 3 year olds.

What is his stud fee for 2016?

I honestly believe that if he has already made a name for himself and his babies are performing that it will not matter really where in the country he is, especially with shipped semen it is not like people's only options are hauling to the location of the stud to get bred

I was thinking the same thing. My one mare was bred to him in his first year standing with the old owner. The filly was nice but compared to her other colts didn't do as well on the track... I think won $11,000 total with an 88 SI. I see a lot of other studs coming out of the gates a lot stronger with their first few crops, Lazy E has a lot of competition and he could be overlooked as well. I thought the first year he was getting a lot of attention from barrel racers as well. That really isn't a lot of foals for his first few foal crops...

I'll be at the Lazy E on Friday. My mom and I were both wanting to see Coronado Cartel. Pappi too if he's still there. I'll find out and let you know. The other Pappasito thread has a picture of him that rachelly took.

Ron and Laurie Moosman are great people. They are hard workers and do a great job breeding horses. With AI breeding Utah is not far for anyone to breed to Papasito. Utah has a pretty strong QH breeding. Race horses and other event horse are bred a lot for this area. I don't know if this true about SW Wyoming but I heard it was NW Utah. Either way Moosman's do a great job with people's horses.  When I have had horses bred at the Moosman's, 100% of my mares got in foal and had babies!  Ron trained for me also and did a great job.
