What does everyone use to keep their pets in their yard? We live close to a road that people constanly drive too fast on and have lost 2 dogs this year becuase of that. Curious to see what everyone uses. It doesn't help that the neighbor constantly pets the dogs when they come across the road, leading to the dog wanting to go across the road. I was thinking invisible fence or wireless. Thank you!!

I used the invisible fence system. Worked well for my dog as he totally respected it. Some dogs will run right thru it tho.

That is what I am asking about. The type of fence people use and have found to work. I have been pushing for a fence since February when all my dogs were still alive, but have still not gotten one. Now, I would like opinions on the type of fence people recommend so that I can get one.

if your out of city get the wire fence , if your in neighborhood get chainlink or privacy.. we as owners have to do this to protect our animals.. we cant blame anyone (drivers, cars , people) if we arent being responsible ourselves.

I do not blame anyone but myself for what has happened, trust me this is eating me alive that I have not gotten a fence sooner. But what I would really appreciate is the type and kind of fences people recommend. I understand everyone is very quick to judge on why my dogs have not been in a fence sooner, and like I said I take for responsibility for the loss of life, as it is not fair to them that my lack of effort resorts in their death. Any recommendations on fence models and what works great would be kindly appreciated.

Sorry about your dogs...chain link is probably best assuming you don't have a dog that digs under them or climbs over them (mine actually did both when she was young).  I've tried the invisible fence and with most dogs it works great, but you do have to train them to it.  I think some people put it up and then the dogs run through and they just say the fence doesn't work.  In reality, the training is a huge part of getting that fencing to work.  Of course there will be some dogs that don't care and run through it, just like some horses don't respect electric fence.   I can't remember the brand I had but I know I bought it at Walmart and it wasn't terribly expensive.  New place has chain link and my now older dog does perfectly fine with it.

The quickest and easiest option (and portable!) would be on of the e-fences where you plug the charger in your house. It gives them a large circular perimeter. Even if you invest in a permanent fence, this would get you through until it's installed.
Something like this:

Im sorry I wasnt pointing at you it was for any owner in general.. Im sorry for your loss .The invisable ones work for some but not all dogs.. Id just put up poles and wire fence.. unless they are tiny then maybe small squares....good luck..

^^  This.  I have used it for 5 years or so.
They sell them on Amazon, and cost is about $250.  Well worth the investment.

We have regular dog wire with a hot wire around the bottom so they can't dig out. I don't like the invisible fence in our area because other dogs can get in it and I'm afraid it would fail to work one day. I just feel more secure using a actual fence ;)

Believe me, even if it fails one day(or turned off for a few months by small child) it takes the dogs a long time to figure it out. Once a dog gets shocked several times, and I turn mine up on the highest so they get the point the first time, they don't test it very often after! They learn exactly were the boundary is and we couldn't even call ours across it, we would have to get a leash and force them to cross it when we would take them with us.

Most of the time my dogs are inside or running around at the barn with me, but when they're at the house I let them out in the yard to play/potty. I have a chainlink fence in the back, which worked great until our Catahoula (who hates to be contained anywhere) figured out he could push his way under it. Everytime he went out there he would escape and go lay in the front yard lol. He taught my other dogs how to do it though and one of them is a beagle who wanders soooo we put a low voltage hot wire around the bottom portion of the fence and one little zap was all it took to teach them to respect it. I haven't had the hotwire connected in a year though - have no longer needed it. The only reason I didn't go with the invisible fence is I didn't like the idea of them getting zapped without seeing a barrier to go along with the zap.

We have an underground fence for 3 of them, then the other one just runs loose. He's road smart though and gets out of the way.

We have five ft. Pipe fence with the horse wire around our place. Our ground is hard enough we don't have to worry about them digging under it. Wasn't cheap though. Cost us $10 a foot eleven years ago.

This is what we have also and it has worked awsome. No dogs off the property and no strays on. The entire paremater of our property is fenced like this so they do have the run of the whole place. You can just go get T posts and the small squared wire fencing and have a fence up in just a few hours.
