I'm trying to buy the shortest LQ trailer I can get away with and I'm having a dilemma. People with cowboy showers: do you like them? Use them? And just how cold is it to get nekid and shower basically outside?

We had one in the trailer we just sold. My husband installed it, and I was so grateful to have it! He put in a small water heater too. I didn't use it in the dead of winter, but I used it when it was nippy outside and it wasn't too bad. We would hang a shower curtain up so it kind of held the heat around you.

The aren't has handy as one inside but they are ok.  We had one and I used it a lot.  Just make sure back doors on trailer are closed.  I cut a square out of the floor mat that I could take up so the water would run out of the boards.  I's short enough so I didn't have to worry about the windows.  There were a few times that it was chilly but not bad.  We did have a water heater also.

NOPE nope and nope went with a friend who had one and never again, mine is teeny tiny and if you drop the soap you have to open the shower door to pick it up but I would never buy one with a cowboy shower. Fortunately the three barrel races we went to had shower facilities and I choose to use those.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE MINE and would much rather have the space in my small lq than crowd it with a shower inside.  Pass thru door is right there so all I have to do is step right back in.

While I have used many a cowboy shower, my favorite arrangement actually being one that was rigged in a back tack compartment, I have to say there are certain things that I don't think you should compromise on and being able to take a decent shower has become one of those things for me.

I like a cowboy shower. I have gotten it down to an art over the years. 1. Buy you a cheap cooler from Walmart. 2. Grab a one gallon per minute sure-flo pump from Tsc. 3. Pick up a small 12 volt battery at a parts store (lawn mower type). 4. Get a bucket heater. 5. Mount the pump to the cooler lid. 6. Drop the bucket heater in the cooler full of water, and shut the lid. 7. In about 20 minutes of heating, you can take a nice hot shower for about $100. No plumbing the trailer, no holding tank. When your done, stick everything in the cooler, and travel on. I like to keep some tin foil in the trailer. You can slap it over the windows fast and easy, and nobody can see in.

Interesting to read everyone's replies. I'm on the lookout for a small LQ right now. However, an inside shower is definitely on my list. I can't handle dirt on my feet, the thought of a cowboy shower makes me cringe!

Wear flip flops LOL

I haven't used a cowboy shower per say but back in the day I did a lot of weekend trail rides,  many rough out. I would buy one of those sun showers and hang it in the back of my trailer. It got the job done. Now that I have a LQ (8 ft) with a shower I would not do it any other way.

Always think of resale when you buy. A cowboy shower is a big no for that.

Glad to read this! I have a small LQ and love it and it has a cowboy shower in 1st stall. I haven't dared to use it yet thinking it won't work.  Plus I store all my traveling stuff in there. I think I'll try it out this weekend and come back with an update.

I was in the same boat as you when looking for a LQ. I found quite a few that were nice, but had cowboy showers. I kept looking and was able to find a smaller LQ trailer that has a slide out, which gives me twice the bang for my buck. More LQ space, without adding to the overall length of the trailer. The bathroom is small, but has a regular shower that works awesome. In the end, I'm very glad I passed on the ones with a cowboy shower.

Mine does the job. I take cold showers in the summer and put a heater back there with me in the winter.

I decided I get enough points using my Diesel card that if it comes down to me not being able to smell myself then I will just stop in the Pilot truckstop and take a quick shower there haha...I am not going into debt for a true lq trailer. I have the oldest, ugliest, Trails west with a 10ft dressing room and a mattress and an ac...with electric for space heater and a minifridge or microwave if I want them....but I dont haha. I do just fine...Im never gone THAT long...I'll just use all my daughters baby-wipes in the mean time. Cowboy Shower would probably be fine since I have a stud stall and only use that stall for storage anyway...BUUT there is too much feed and hay and a big dog bed and all that in there to worry about a shower. It definitely wouldnt "hurt" the value of the trailer haha...but nothing can hurt the value of that trailer I promise.
