It pointless to give omeprazole and ranitidine on top of previcox? Will all 3 still do their job given together? Excuse me if this comes off as a stupid question I just had a friend bring it up and didnt know the answer

The question is why are you giving all three?

I would be looking at a different more natural regime if this is a long term thing.

I don't give previcoxx long term, I would rather give glucosamine, or HA Im every 3-7 days, less adverse side effects.

Omeprazole I will only give for 30 consecutative days, then readjust my feeding regime. As omeprazole given long term also has adverse effects

Most current information being released is suggesting to give milk of magnesia 20 min before riding or racing as it neutralizes the acid short term without any long term negative effects.

Ranitidine I don't use as it does the same thing as omeprazole depending on the study you read it can be considered less potent

Thank you! All 3 are not long term, just so happens all 3 are needed right now and I just wanted to make sure the previcox wouldn't counter with the affects of the ulcer treatment!

I do Omeprazol day before, day of and day after a race. I dont use the other ulcer. We did the 30 day treatment. I am looking at the.previcoxx for weeks we race...big shows. I would time them differently, but they couldnstill both work. I would bot give all at once.

Yes, I believe my sister has given GastroGard along with previcox (arthritis in knee) at the same time.

Yes, vets gave my horse Chance all three.  Omeprozole (sp?) in his feed for long term treatment of ulcers. Ranitidine(sp?) when he would get anxious in his stall and Previcox for his feet....extreme navicular

I put an older horse that was on Cissus Quadrangularis (from Animal Element) for pain and was able to take them off of previcoxx. It is all natural. I broke my neck in 2013 and took Cissus capsules instead of pain pills.

I was so glad to see this post right now! I have my daughter's horse on omeprazole right now but was wondering if I could give the provicox with it. I usually start the provicox a few days out before a rodeo weekend and this would be the day, I would start it. I think you read my mind!

I would be getting a second opinion on giving omeprazole and ranitidine together, as

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor, and ranitidine inhibits the hcl secretion

To me this is affecting the digestion, and I would think increase the chances of impaction colic as the food is not being digested properly.

I also wouldn't be giving both over 3 days as I think the absorption issues would far outweight the benefit.

Also in my text book, Equine Clinical Pharmacology, Bertone&horspool, 2004, it says in controlled studies failed to enhance healing as compared to the control group
