| I know this is possibly an "odd" thread or post, but I have a few questions and I'm curious to how many people rodeo that have kids.
I'm married and recently have become pregnant. I have always rodeo'ed through my highschool and teenage years, very heavily.
I'm just curious if it's even possible to have kids, even young kids and newborns and still be able to rodeo?

| My husband and I have a 9 month old and we have not checked up much. I didnt take her until she was about 3 months old but other than that she goes with us all the time. We do have a great partnership and an awesome support system though. If its just my husband and I, we switch watching the baby while the other competes. Sometimes our family members come to the rodeo and volunteer to help out while we are competing. It is most def possible! It takes a little extra preparation and some team work but you will have it figured out in no time. |

| I am a single mom...when I was married my husband never went with me to jackpots and I always had to take K. I would park by friends and KayDann would either nap in her carseat or watch cartoons on her portable DVD player. I would lope circles around her stroller to warm up and I would lope around my rig if the weather wasn't great (hot or cold or rainy). My girlfriends knew that NO ONE was to go near my truck except them and me to check on her. I took her to all the big added money races...and she was the baby in the pack and play in the stands...the same type deal...my friends knew that NO ONE was to pick her up or be around her unless it was me or them. And everyone kept a look out and helped so much. I remember M.Cloward with 321 ACTION VIDEO telling me that I could bring her by anytime while I went to run. I made friends with all the vendors and still to this day, even though I never used any of their services, remember how sweet those ladies were to offer to watch K. They all knew how hard it was to be a mom.
I remember going to Christmas Cash in Amarillo when she was 13 months old or so...it was -9 that weekend...I had K alone...we stayed in a hotel because at the time I didnt have a Dressing room/LQ. I remember how we couldnt park anywhere near the horses or stalls and we were all having to cart feed back and forth. I wasnt about to drag K out in that cold so she stayed it the truck with the heater and I asked a Police officer in the patrol car writing people tickets for parking there for too long if he would watch K...and he did:) I remember having her pack and play on wheels and instead of folding it up and carrying that and the stroller and the baby bags and blankets and toys I just opended the pack and play in the parking lot....put K in there under a million blankets...and the bags and I pushed the entire pack and play everywhere.
I didn't "rodeo" unless my mom or someone went with me....There no way to have another barrelracer help at rodeos really because you all kinda run at the same time. I have more help now that I am divorced and K is 2 and all us mom band together and watch for everyone. I do rodeo now but K doesnt go with me yet...not until she can sit on her pony and I can pony her around everywhere I go and can hand her pony to a girlfriend or someone to hold while I run. I can tell you that even though you are married you might not always have help but you can do it. Find some good friends and some other moms that are looking for the same favor you are. Kelly Maben told me one time when I was upset about not having any help to come anyway...that there would always be help...and there always has been.
Not going wasn't really an option for me....I paid our electric bill and truck payment from what I made running barrels...if I didnt go, we didnt eat...and unfortunately my husband at the time was not willing to help at all. The one time he did he took her to a ranch rodeo to watch and found a new girlfriend hahahaha....so anyway...you can do it. Find good people and go have fun.

I have a few barrel racing friends that are moms also and we have made a point to help watch each others little ones during runs. Also recently we have paid a teenager we know and trust that attends barrel races to be our sitter.
If you want to make it work badly enough you can. :) |

| I'm so glad that you have found a little help out in this rodeo world.
I am young and pregnant with my first, yes.
I was a little discouraged and worried that I wouldn't get to continue to do what I love to do with a kid.
I have never known anything but rodeos and my horses. So getting a little discouraged I was looking for some insight that I'm not that only one to rodeo with a kid and it IS most certainly possible.
I have a wonderful support group, my family is willing to help me with whatever it may be. I am nervous but very excited to see what this has to offer. I couldn't imagine my life without rodeo and I want my children to grow up around it and possibly love it just as much as I do.
My husband is all for me getting to rodeo, he's a truck driver so he's not "home" very often and i certainly don't just want to sit around my house and watch my horses go to waste. I will always have someone to go with me just about, we are buying a new LQ as we sold our other, so I hope that I can make it happen and continue to rodeo and chase my dreams of rodeo'ing locally and hitting a few jackpots until shes older and we can travel a little more.
I work 3 soon to be 4 jobs, own my own business and going to college. |

I feel like the luckiest person in the world that my daughter and I can ride together now! I don't go as much, or as competitively but a lot of that is by choice. My son is a ball player and I do everything I can to be at his games too!
