| I'm headed to a barrel race next weekend at a facility where all parking is on concrete. I do have some boots for the horses that i can pad while they are tied. Extremely small warm up so I can't tie there. I was going to rent a stall and use it for the day but guess what, still on concrete. Any little tricks or things I'm missing to help my horses out? Will only need to be there about 4 hours. Thanks. |

Location: Phoenix | For 4 hours I'd tough it out, or leave them in the trailer if the weather permits. Which it probably doesn't with you in a CA....so really I'm no help at all. Unless you feel like investing in those kiddie gridlock foam floor mats for the 4 hour stand time.... |

Just a word of advice, If you guy the kiddie gridlock things go for the ones without letters, otherwise you will have letters falling out everywhere! My filly ended up with the letter O stuck on a pastern, no idea how to this day because I had to cut it off. They are like 60 bucks for enough to do a 12x12 area at toys r us so not super expensive.

Great Idea though. I thought about buying a rubber mat but just seems like a heavy hassle for one day...if anyone can think of anything else let me know! |

I honestly would not worry about 4 hours myself unless you have a horse with a specific problem. |

| Every parking lot has to have an edge. Back up to the edge and tie to the back of the trailer like the butt bar. Just get there early enough to park on the edge. |

I certainly plan to get their early.. THe only problem I have is my colt likes to paw when he is left at the side of the trailer. Pawing on soft ground is one thing, concrete Is another. lol I just may have him with me when I run my other horse and have a friend hold him. Or leave in trailer!!! I hate to buy softrides for a one time thing. |

Where IN San Francisco? I've never been to California. I don't think of San Francisco as a hot bed city for barrel racing. I know they've had the Cow Palace rodeo out there for a zillion years. Is the barrel race at the Cow Palace?
Another question.... Is the Cow Palace actually in San Francisco city limits or is it really in a suburb of SF? Are they still having rodeos at the Cow Palace? It seems like they are still having the PRCA rodeo there, but at a different time of year than they did for many years.

Yes it's at the cow palace. It's the same time of year as it has been for decades. When I was traveling with my mom and she made the NFR, cow palace used to be the last rodeo of the year to qualify. They still have the PRCA rodeo but the barrel race is open now and the top 10 get to run in the perf sat night with the WPRA girls. I'm a guy so I plan to be in that short go!!! And no it's actually in Daly City. |

Location: North Dakota -> Colorado | I love my soft-rides, but for four hours I probably wouldn't worry about it. The foam mat idea is intriquing. My mare that I run now slightly stocks up (not lame, just a tiny bit of fluid that I feel) after running and being penned up in the hind end and soft rides greatly diminishes that. I'm a believer in them and will not go anywhere without them, especially for this horse! |

i have 3 pair of soft rides...they are SO worth the investment.... BUT if you buy some...go ahead and buy from Soft Ride themselves..that way if they do tear up they will warranty them...i bought 2 of my pairs from people on ebay and the bottom grippy part broke off... it was almost like the bottoms were dry rotted :( (i can still use them however, the repairing process involved A LOT of silicone on the sole lol ) |

I looked at the Easy Boot Clouds - do they sell them one boot at a time, or by the pair - it's hard to tell from the website. |

Flit, You can get the mats at Sam's (if y'all have Sam's Clubs out there) for about $25 a set. I bet one set would get you two deep for the area you need to mat if the horse will be tied. I keep four sets in my trailer so that I can do concrete stall two deep. |
