Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | I'm hoping I can post directly from my phone - if not I may have to post links. This is the OTTB that I was asking about on feed. He's by Dynaformer and won quite a bit on the track. His name is Dynamic Host - he was entered in the Retired Race Horse Project (thus the Fb page) and didn't make the deadline , which is part of how I wound up with him. Got a lot of gaps to fill and training to do, but I am loving this horse. Hoping to eventually make a good eventing prospect out of him . |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | Finally getting some pics shared....
Thought I would share this too. I knew he'd been trained by California Chrome's trainer, Art Sherman, at some point - figured it was probably many years ago. Turns out it was just a couple of years ago 2012-2013, at which time he won the Tokyo City Cup, which is pretty cool. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/68344/dynamic-host-topples-tokyo-city-cup

Location: Central Texas | I have an OTTB who's grandsire is Seattle Slew and great grandsire is Secretariet which doesn't mean a thing other than it is a nice conversation piece. I absolutely love him. His work ethic is out of this world and his personality makes me smile. Enjoy yours and share the progress. Love seeing the pics. I don't know how to upload photos or I would try and post his. |

Location: IL | That's one nice looking horse!! I wish you lots of luck and success with him! OTTBs make such awesome horses, glad to hear you love him already!
I love my OTTB mare. She has an amazing work ethic and tries so hard to please. My girl's sire was In Excess and her dam was She's Heavenly. I dont' recognize many of the names on her pedigree, but the transporter I used who also breeds/trains/races TBs, looked at her papers and was just in awe. I guess most of her bloodlines come from Europe and he told me if I bred her I could probably get $10k for her baby just on bloodlines alone. lol Well, I'm not in the breeding business and should I ever breed her I'll be keeping the baby no doubt. As for training, my gal was trained by Bob Baffert. It's fun to tell people that my mare was trained to race by the trainer who just won the Triple Crown just to see the look on their face. lol I've trained her on barrels and she's ready to be exhibitioned but life has just gotten in the way and I haven't gotten to take her to any shows yet.
ETA: Here's a pic of her I just took last month and the other is a pic of her being taken to the track to race in CA. I believe she was just 2 in the race pic and she's 7 now.

Very very nice! Neat on the history as well! I bet you feel like you've got royalty in the barn! ??
He's already got me wishing I had one small enough to try on barrels! ???? |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | I just posted on the other feed thread. Had the vet out yesterday and he's got fore & hind gut ulcers - which I expected. Explains a few things. I think I'm going to give him a break and just let him be a horse for a bit until we get this resolved. He does get new shoes today so we'll see how that goes! |

Location: Alberta, Canada | I've bragged up my ottb alot on here. But it's been a while since I've been on or bragged about her :)
My little 5 year old Red x Snowbound daughter went from being track broke and a complete handful in January to running tough in the 1D in 9 months. She was 16th in the 1D out of over 400 runs mid sept. She also placed just out of making the short go at a futurity in July and came back to the shortgo top of the 2D at our big provincial finals out of over 1400 runs in August. Only 60 horses ran in the 1D. In september she won her first local jackpot by a full second and then three days later took 2nd in the 1D behind her big sister and they both outran the rest of the field by a half second.
I would take another in a heartbeat. She is something else and I cannot believe I turned her down THREE times because of jockey club papers. She has even outrun my older mare (her big sister -- also out of Red) a few times!! Very excited for her future!
Point is -- people don't give OTTBs enough credit. They are phenominal animals. Ive literally never sat in the saddle of a more athletic and smart horse. Pretty lucky to have her!

I'm glad to see the thoroughbred rescues get the support that they've gotten and the Retired Race Horse program iniated. I think that goes a long ways in promotion and getting people to give them a try at other things.
I love to see people give a horse a chance to try something different. |
