Cold weather is coming and I like to read when I'm cooped up! Any recommendations on books? I prefer books that are about horses combined with a love story or a mystery. I've always tried to read some of the New York Times best selllers, but I usually dislike those the most!! So back to horses only like when I was a kid!! haha!!

The Last True Cowboy was pretty good. And Natalie Keller Reinert books are good.

Here's a description of my book, Lost Betrayal -
THE FUTURE OF THE RANCH HANGS IN THE BALANCE Sage is just getting her life back together when a tornado touches down and destroys her family ranch in northern Georgia taking her hopes, her dreams and the very horse that the ranch’s future hinges on. An ex rodeo cowboy with a past, Garrett has sworn off rodeo and the last thing he needs is entanglement with a woman on a wild horse chase but there’s too many unanswered questions, such as how a horse could stay gone so long. Refusing to believe her horse was killed in the storm and refusing to give up on the ranch, Sage begins the journey of rebuilding her life once again and searching for the horse that to her, holds the past and her future. Sordid secrets and malicious betrayal jeopardize her efforts. Is she strong enough to push past the hurt and the lies in order to get back all she holds dear?

Here's a review -

. I loved this book. I could tell the author knew what she was writing about--horses, ranching--and I'd venture to guess that she may have been closer to a tornado than I'd want to be!There was so much substance and reality in the storyline. The "hero" was such a nice man, the heroine fiesty and strong. There was just enough romance and sex to keep it interesting, but it wasn't the main theme of the book and you didn't find it on every other page. There were gritty times, unsavory charactors, also a charactor who had two sons and while I didn't like some of the things he did, I liked him as a parent. There was betrayal, and loving support. In many ways the conclusion was bittersweet, but fitting to the story line.
This is more than just a cowgirl story-I'm betting my husband will like this one too!

I agree with anything Julie Cooper and there is a book called Barn Blind that is super good. If you can find it, totally worth the read!

Always loved My Friend Flicka and Smokey the Cowhorse when I was younger.  Also Black Beauty and all the Black Stallions, and the Man From Snowy River.  More recently, Secretariat - loved that one.  Loved the Horse Whisperer too!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will have to see what the library has. Going to write down a bunch and go. I've read the Horse Whisperer many years ago, but I would read it again. The Michele Scott books sound a lot like Dick Francis books which I also like.

Some of the nonfiction books are great too like Seabiscuit, Funnycide, and the Eighty Dollar Champion.

Anything by Dick Francis! My favorite is Bone Crack. He was a steeplechase jockey for the royal family. He is my favorite author. All his books revolve around the horse industry in some way.

After 'The Horse Whisperer' Nicholas Evans next book was 'The Loop'.
Also set in Montana: Same good style,..wolves, horses,..etc.

I actually liked it better then THW.

He has a few good books,... horses in the background - 'The Brave' ( (1950`s cowboy tv show stars,..)
and 'The Divide' (Murder mystery)

It's available on Amazon, and I just sold a paranormal short story that's based on a true story about a haunted ride I had years ago - Winds On Indian Mound. It's included in Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep which hit the Amazon best sellers list in 2 categories. Here's an interview link that I did for Lost Betrayal that tells a little bit of background about the book http://everybodyneedsalittleromance.com/the-inspiration-that-sparke...
