Since the OTQH idea hasn't worked out and the reiner/cutter reject sold before I got to see her, I'm looking at a couple of prospects. I realize that there are A LOT of variables, but on pedigree, which of these two horses would you pick for a barrel prospect and which one would make a better barrel horse by pedigree if you wanted to compete in the 1D/2D with possibility for rodeo horse down the line: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/raren+laura?  or http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/cash+for+de+dash  One's a 2 year old and one's a 3 year old. Neither one are mine so I can't post pictures. The 3 year old is started with 60 days under saddle, and the 2 year old is ready to start. Yes there is a difference in price, but it is commensurate with training. Thanks! And be honest but please be kind. :)

Neither...Why?? haha! I don't ride mares and I usually don't buy something anyone else has rode. HOWEVER I would buy the dash for Perks 3 year old....think it would be fun to try AND I would say there is enough Doc Bar in that pedigree to put some size/frame on one-plus add some quick feet and sensibility....plus I've had very little experience with the other horses pedigree...particularly would be a fun choice if the horse is broke nicely and fun to ride-2 year olds need a lot more patience and or time.

I like them both, I would judge them more on confirmation and they way they move more then their papers, I really like the top side of the 2nd one, dash for perks and the signature are great lines for barrel racing and running, throwing a little doc o Lena in there may make a great cross too!

It all depends on build, attitude, and where you mostly run, deep ground, trashy ground, small pens, big pens.

Personally I would go for the second one

That's a hard one. I always loved the Raren To Dash but also love the Doc O Dynamite too. Take both

I would tend to go for the three year old as well.

The Raren To Dash mare!
I am very biased toward Rare Bar horses, since my high school mount was an own son, and the greatest thing I ever threw a leg over.
Good luck and let us know who you pick!

I'll only have mares anymore...I had a gelding once...probably not ever again. I've never seen such a needy, insecure, mama's boy, LOL.  It would have to be a really special horse for me to own another gelding.

I know 2 year olds and 3 year olds both take a lot of patience (2 year olds more so), but next year I'm gonna have a lot more time for patience as my mare will be bred and I won't have anything to ride. I mean, I can ride her still, but not like I'd like.

I can't! LOL. If I could I would...but, decisions, decisions, LOL. They are both comparably built and nice to look at. :

I like the second cross

Same, only because I like Doc O Dynamite colts. Hard to choose though!

I like the 2yo on paper better personally though the DFP horse may stand out to barrel racers for resale.

Sounds like my gelding haha! I call him my Delicate Flower. Anyways between the 2 you posted I like the second one.

Go ride the 3yo, you should already be able to tell how she moves. If you don't like her go with the 2yo and get her started how you want. Pedigree wise neither one stands out more than the other to me. Both nice papers, but nothing that makes me think one has a better chance than the other.

I've seen the 3 y/o move in a video, and she moves nicely, but because she is about 300 miles away, I haven't had a chance to go try her out yet.

Based on pedigree alone, I'd go with Cash For De Dash. I feel it's a stronger pedigree of broodmares sires. I know you are wanting a barrel horse, but my experience has been you stack the odds more in your favor if you have a strong maternal line of broodmare sires. Plus if they get injured you have something to fall back on. Of course you always go with conformation and way of going first. Good luck! Both are nice horses on paper.

Hands down, the DFP x Doc O Dynamite is what everyone is telling me to go with...that was the one I was leaning towards too, but I've been known to be wrong before. I'm hoping that this weekend or the next I can make the trek to go try her and hopefully bring her home. :)
