Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I've got a little short cutting bred mare that has a little head with little short ears. She pins her ears back when she runs. When she does my headstall comes back over her ears and just flops the rest of the run. It's every headstall I put on her. She doesn't like a bit high in her mouth so I can't adjust it. Is there anything else I can do? She wears a tie down so I thought about tying it to the part of her nose band that goes behind her ears but I don't know if this will work. |

Are you using a browband headstall with a throat latch? If you are, and it is still coming off, try a cob-sized English bridle. |

I've tired both. The brow band isn't as bad but it still does it. It doesn't come completely over like the one ear. It just kinda comes up on her ears. |

Location: North Dakota | You could try tying it to the noseband or or you could make a jowl strap. I have done this with chicago screws and an old throat latch strap. I can't garantee either will work but it's worth a shot. |

| I had a bit that made all my bridles do this for some odd reason. We tied the poll piece to the tie down poll piece and didn't have anymore issues. |

I didn't think about it being the bit. I'll try tying it down. |

| I'm trying to envision how a properly adjusted head stall with brow band and throat latch comes off.

My bit would flip over on the turns which sent a ripple-like effect up the headstall and would flip it over her ear. Then gravity did the rest. That bit was just a total pain in the rear. haha It was so weird, but it happened. |

I'd tie a string from the browband to the tie down...
I also heard someone the other day mention they'd tie the headstall to a braid the the mane for a horse who didn't like the headstall touching his ears (abuse case) |

Let's see if it will post. I don't have one of her with a brow band on.
