This was happening alot .. Illegals were running a black market meat business.. suppossedly they were arrested last year .. They were literally slaughtering the horses in pasture alive and taking the meat to sell in back alleys in the areas where illegals were living .. there are communities of them.
I think this is incredibly horrific and it is still going on randomly.. security is hard for the horses go in pastures usually at night due to temps daytime and in training daytime.
I hope they find the monstors.. and I hope more is done then arrested..

This is so terrible. And so soon after the slaughter houses were shut down here too. I'm in Florida, but I'm way too far off of the road to see that I have horses. I have dogs that would alert me as well. I absolutely cannot imagine walking out my door to something that horrific.
This would be just as tragic if it were an old pasture horse.. But it's just sickening to think of the time, money, and training that was put into this beauty and what he was worth, just to have someone end his life for his meat. I hope karma gets the disgusting individuals responsible and gets them good.

I think it is crazy, they are very bold if they would do this to a horse of this caliber. I am not saying value makes it better or worse, but you think they would go after a horse in an isolated field somewhere. This horse is worth six figures, you think they would fear being caught on a farm like this.

They probably had no idea what the horse was worth - just saw a big, healthy, easy to access horse. Very sad.

That will make you sick. This is why I will always favor horse slaughter being legalized. We had horses stolen out of our pasture way back in the day.

I think the worst part is he was led out of his stall... Like the owner said he probably went willingly with the people who murdered him... How terrible... I hope the stall camera caught the people who did this.

That's what one of the articles said. It has probably his size that made him a target. This is absolutely horrible and I hope the people responsible are caught and well I can't say what I hope happens to them.

This story is heart breaking and devastating!

On a side note, I can only imagine the drugs that went into that horses system over the years and I DOUBT they are ok for humans through consumption. Makes me sick to think about and I hope justice will be served ASAP!

My grandma use to live near some Mexicans......you would see them at the sale barn almost every week. They would buy some fat cheap horses.....but you newer saw them at their house.

i remember one day riding by when I was about 15 years old, they were butchering one of the horses they bought, and having a big party while doing it.

i think it happens a lot more than most want to believe, you can buy a horse cheaper than a fat steer now days....and sadly that is a food source for some

My question is, and yes this story is heart breaking and is HORRIBLE, but that aside, why is eating horse meat so taboo? I love my horses and would never want to eat them, but if the world was ending and they had to go, I would eat them. I see horses as a livestock animal, they are not pets to me, they serve a purpose. I guess I just never understood why people have an issue with slaughtering horses for human consumption. Like I said, this particular case is horrible and completely WRONG, but in general, legally, why is eating horses so taboo?

I am going to say probably that the majority of people do not believe the way you do and that is why it is currently illegal. Not knocking you at all, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion as we all are. I was just providing my opinion of an answer to your question.

This story is horrific..

But to your question, I don't know either. Most horses are fed well, not overloaded with growth hormones or antibiotics or kept in cages and eat good hay and grain.. If something really really bad happened, I'm not going hungry...

I think it is insane to send horses out of the country to slaughter where the regulations aren't the same. We have a supply and there is a demand.
