I need the help of all you experienced breeders out there. My mare is bred to a very nice local stallion for a may 2016 baby but i would like to breed her to something a little bigger and more well known for next year. If you could breed her to who ever you wanted, who would it be. I have not set a stud fee limit at this time but would like to be able to recoup the fee when selling the baby. Any thoughts would be great.

Lions Share of Fame has the best people to work with you can find from a mare owner's standpoint.  I will hopefully have a small pack of lion cubs next year.

Question for those recommending stallions.

Why did you recommend the ones you did?

Based on some empirical data, or just because you saw there stallion add in the bhn mag.

You're so arrogant. Wouldn't it be better to just think that stuff than post it?

So you don't have an answer?

I am always curious. You never get answers unless you ask the question.

For instance, I know why KMC is a fan of LSOF, she has stated it before on this site. And Brewster just enumerated her reasons for suggesting SBL, don't totally agree with them but she has her reasons and that I can respect.

But nine times out of ten folks just jump on there and list the same 4-5 stallions that have the biggest shiniest ads in the magazines and call it good.

I have a few answers but lets face it, picking a BARREL horse sire is 90% subjective.

I will always be a fan of Nonstop Firewater because I've worked with him and he is just so nice and so easy to work with. He is a proven producer with very little large advertising. He's produced two NFR qualifiers (Fashionable Boy and Firewater Five), plus record setters, futurity horses, etc. He has great conformation, and again, I can't stress his amazing personality enough.

I'm a bit biased though, the mare in my profile picture is getting bred to him this spring. haha

Firewater Finale. It would give you Special Effort, Easy Jet and Firewater Flit to go along with the Rocket Wrangler and Lady Bugs Moon. They are all bloodlines that compliment each other and have been proven to be crosses that work. Plus he's a really nice horse that is producing nice barrel horses.

I agree.  I got to meet Nonstop Firewater a month or so ago and he is stunning in person.  His photos online do him no justice.  I know Amy has worked hard to hand pick every horse she owns and breeds, from the broodmares, to the stallions to the horses she rides. Not to mention she does all the breeding work.  I felt honored to get to see her facility.  And it's no secret that FWF is a producer of sires.  It seems that a large number of the FWF sons standing all produce great athletes.  I don't think you can go wrong with any son of FWF.

Also, depending on budget, I would love to have a Blazen Jetolena baby one day. I think you would be able to re-sell a BJO baby easily.

For purpose of discussion, I will reiterate.  First I must state that I like many stallions, some are the cool kids, some are unknowns.

I mentioned my experience with LSOF due the the fact he was listed previously.  I was slow to jump on the DTF bandwagon due to some not remaining sound.

I look at at feet and legs first.  His are good in person, not just in ads...

Second, proven family.  Four full brothers, FM Radio, you don't get more proven than he in the arena.  Gun Battle, SI 110, second on the All American.  On A Gator, structurally correct and my friend Sorrel Horse Ranch has one she loves.  Then LSOF himself who is proven as a performer and sire.  The fact that his connections are the only ones to settle my hard to breed mare in 17 years and get a viable embryo from her was icing on the cake.

I also handed a lot of entry fees to a Bunny Bid horse back in the day so having him on the papers is a plus.

You are right about many jumping on the shiny ads and I cannot help but wonder if anyone even considers that the horse may bear little resemblance to those ad photos when seen in the flesh.

Now, if my foals get here alive, and don't commit suicide or get crippled, we shall see if my gamble pays off in about 5 years.  Figuring in stud fees, ET, feeding the mares, then the foals, the best I can hope for is they make me happy despite being in the hole.

I am still pondering your best bet for what you want to create...and still thinking Dashing Val would be awesome.   A Nolholme horse if there are any left would be nice too...I have not kept up very well in the last few years.  The Signature was one of the last ones I know.

Foals are athletes and this is the best sire of the three brothers
and bring nice prices ...

and Kenny's new stallion DTF X DFP daughter
you get the best of both worlds ... DTF
and Dash For Perks crossed on Disco Jerry mares is what made him a great

Firewater Ta Fame. I have a filly and a colt by him. They are the most willing and sweetest babies. They don't act like typical babies or get into trouble. They have great bone and confirmation. Can't say enough great things about them.

On A Gator doesn't stand publically anymore, I don't think. Which is unfortunate because he has a lot of nice foals.
