Location: London Ontario | Our family company is looking to sponsor some of the bigger barrel races next year. We are looking for ideas for different awards/titles for out of the normal things I.E fastest time of the weekend, horse with the most heart etc. I am hoping to appeal to those who may fall through the cracks but still have a good weekend. Any original/interesting ideas?
Also what kind of awards do you like to receive? We want to stay away from the normal embroidered coolers, halters etc. I was thinking fuel gift cards....any other ideas? Something that EVERYONE will need. Hoping to stay around $100.
With that being said do you still like receiving something to commemorate the win? Maybe a little plaque or something? Thanks all! |

Location: East Texas | I have seen awards for the horse with the most heart, oldest horse, etc. What about a hard luck award? The fastest time that hit a barrel? How about a one out award for the person one out of the money?
Gift cards and coupons for hats, jewelry, etc. are good, but if I were sponsoring the award, I would want my company logo and/or the assoc. name on the product for advertising and to get my name out. Our youth assoc gives out a ton of stuff and it is hard to go to an event around here and not see that logo. |

| How about one for the person who hauled the farthest? For the kids, the smallest pony? Oh, my sister would have won this one- most barrels hit for the show duration? |

Location: Missouri | Average time, best dressed is fun, one out of the money, last place in a division, hard luck, bulls eye time, most heart, furthest drive, oldest horse...you can give out random items to any of these. Sponsored items, healthy coat, lineaments, feed, boots, gift cards, really anything. |

Location: Where I am happiest | Hard luck award is always a good one and brings somewhat of a bright spot for someone other then just a sucky weekend. Maybe they got bucked off, fell off, horse ran off, a myraid of possabilities and surely at any race there is something to draw from. Another fun thing thats really different....the xtreme barrel races in Reno have a xtreme forcast. This is a multi day go race and you put in your predicted time for the next days go after you have run your first go. IF you happen to hit your time, it is a cool $50,000 pay check. No entry fee for this and it sure makes the next days race fun! They always announce the runners predicted time as they are called up to run. Man it makes the race fun. Nobody hit it last aug but a few came really really close! |

Gift certificates get you new customers, and they often spend more than you donated :)

| I was at a race this summer that would give out awards (free pizza to a place in town) to random drags. Sometimes they would say "Fastest time of this drag wins" or they'd say "Prettiest but not necessarily fastest wins" and other fun things like that. It was fun!
I would say useful things - bell boots, working headstalls, slow feed haynets, beaded over and unders, etc. Just some things I know I would like to win. I would prefer an item I can use over and over again versus plaques, etc. |

Location: Willows, CA | We recently did a one out of the money. The arena had a tack and feed store on the grounds. We did a sale on Renew Gold, and if you had a receipt for a bag that weekend and were one out of the money on either day, we gave you $100. Your receipt had to be timed stamped before your event. We gave out $1200 that weekend, and it was good for everyone.

If you do stuff like this, your sponsors are more likely to donate. Sometimes we want to support an event but just can't afford something extra. But we can usually afford to give a product. Like a couple halters, bell boots, saddle pad, etc. Something that's paid for and not coming out of the bank! :)

Location: west of East Texas | Titles I could have won a lot lately --- ------Oldest team, 77 years for me & my horse combined ------Dead Last in a D, 4 out of 6 runs in one 3-day show and again last night
Awards that can be used are the best. Gift certificates to the sponsors' business or good for the locals but kind of hard for the winners to use if they are very far away. I have a gift certificate sitting on my counter right now that is for a windshield repair. That's awesome and I need it but it's been 6 months and I haven't been able to get back to that town for the service. |

| Lol I got a hard luck hot chocolate one time. Freezing cold january race, stayed out all day, finally time to run, and my saddle breaks as I'm running to second. Ate the dirt hard, and the announcer bought me a hot chocolate for it. lol
Not quite the award we were hoping for, but I'll take it. haha |

Common Sense and then some
Location: So. California | Another idea is Guess your time award. Whomever comes the closest to guessing their time, gets the award. It can be a bit tideous for the office staff, but the contestants sure have fun with it. |
