Location: Texas | I know this has nothing to do with horses but whats the average price to get a whitetail deer shoulder mounted? Im talking about a good mount when the mount can be 20+ and still be in really good shape. The people who I took my deer too to get him processed said its $400 - $500 for a high quality mount. I saw there mounts too and they look amazing for being 20+ yrs old. But my father found one thats $200. I want a high quality mount not a bad quality one that will only last a few years. Thanks y'all! |

Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | From what I have heard it is much cheaper in Texas than it is here. I did not get a deer this year but shot my first antelope and he was a pretty decent one. It is costing us $675 to have him done.

Location: Texas | So in y'all's opinion should we send him to the $500 dollar taxidermist or send him to the $200 one? Or just to be safe meet in the middle around $300 - $400 one so that me and my father are both happy? |

| Congrats, nice kill! 139"?
I wouldnt worry about the price as much as the quality. Ask around on Texas Hunting Forum, I know they could get you lined out with a good taxidermist.

| Honestly prices can vary. More than anything see their work get referrals. This is not somewhere where you want to cut corners or you will be sorry and end up not happy. |

Location: Texas | For the $500 one its only like 10 minutes away from my house (Sanger Tx) and I saw some of there work at the processors and its really nice. They have some 20yrs old mounts and they still looks pretty new. My father won't pay more then $300 but I even offered to pay the rest off but he wants it done in Abilene (nearly 4 hours away) so he will only have to pay $225. It makes no since to me when we can get it done near my house at the place I want and he don't have to spend a lot of money just the $300 and I can cover the rest. Plus this is my first big buck so I want him done right so he will last a long time. I don't wanna be cheap and only have him last a few years. Still trying to convince him to do it my way. |

| In Northern Wisconsin we pay 425 for a good mount. Don't go with the cheapest price you want something like that to last a lifetime. |

| I think the one I had done 2 years ago was $425. Many times, like anything, the price reflects the quality. In Iowa, big buck capital, there are many taxidermists. If they feel they are good enough to go to competitions, then the work is usually good. A friend of ours shot a 180" deer and took him to the cheap guy. The deer looks like a goat with antlers. Completely wrecked him and his magestic beauty. Here are a couple of ours that our taxidermist did, whos won several competitions.

Location: Do I hear Banjos? | Do NOT go cheap on this. The form for the mount will cost the guy 100-150 probably...then the hide tanning cost unless he does his own capes. He is either using cheap quality forms, eyes, glue etc or he is doing it for charity at that cheap price. With lesser quality forms, glue and tanning of the cape...it won't likely look good down the road and absolutely you need to see their work up close to see the quality of their talent as well. It takes something of an artists eye to get the details right.
I'm in Arkansas but average cost for a quality mount you will be proud of for years to come is in the $400-$500 range. We are having our elk shoulder mount done by an award winning highly skilled taxidermist (he won National Champion in 2014). It will cost us $900 and be worth every penny. His work is amazing.

| We paid right at $700 for the mule deer we just had mounted. This deer was older and they really captured that detail. Brosigs did him. Cheap work will show.

| My husband is a taxidermist. DO NOT use the $200 taxidermist. I order all the supplies for the shop. What we use will cost over $200 for 1 deer. There is also so much more involved. Eyes are SO important. Deer eyes are not round. They are almond shaped. There is skill to get them right. I have seen buggy eyed deer, the eyes completely different on the same deer, etc. There is also the sewing. You do not want to see any stitches. We get many mounts in done by someone else that they want fixed. Eyes cannot be fixed. Trying to save money can cost you a lot more if you have to recape it and have it done over again. Also, get an estimate on when you will get it back. Some around here take 2-3 years. All of ours are done within 6-9 months. We charge $375. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I just picked mine up that I killed in February and it cost $375. My dad had one done a couple years ago that was $450. The same guy did a couple skull mount for us they were $200 each. So it depends on what you get or at least for the guy we use it does. |
