So aside from the Blake & Miranda topic... How did everyone feel about last night's award show?

And, am I the only person that was like.. WHO is this Chris Stapleton guy and HOW did he just beat out Sam Hunt for new artist?! I listen to country radio all the time... How did I not know about him?
He sure put on an amazing show with Justin Timberlake though, and I bet he is going to do big things! I know his name now, that's for sure!

Brad & Carrie are amazing together.. I love that they host this every year now. Loved Little Jimmy Dicken's one last laugh, too.

I couldn't get into the show at all last night, pretty much thought it stunk.  It didn't seem country at all.

I am not thrilled with a lot of the music out there on country radio right now but music goes in cycles. Back in the late 70's and early 80's country was considered too pop then Randy Travis came a long. Now maybe Chris Stapleton will right the ship.

I missed the first hour.  Doesn't sound like I missed much.  I miss the days of Wrangler jeans and classy dresses, and the steel guitar.  I think this officially means I am old.  I had no idea who Chris Stapleton was.  And I thought Miranda looked very sad last night.

This is a good point! Maybe Chris Stapleton will make COUNTRY cool again

My SO was not happy to see Luke Bryan win entertainer of the year. I was afraid he would.. He's definitely doing well for himself I've just never been a huge fan.

I'm probably on my own on this one, but Kenny Chesney will always be my #1 performer. I've seen him live more times than I can count and can't wait until his next tour

Luke might be the Taco Bell of country but I drool everytime I see him.  Can't help it.  I become a St. Bernard.  It's cool. Hubby loves  Reba.  It's just a fun joke between us.  Try not to judge too harshly. LOL

I'm a huge Chris Stapleton fan - I'm beginning to wish I watched the CMAs last night, but I don't like 95% of top 40 country music - sounds just like pop!  He is legit.  Check out the Steeldrivers for some of his stuff - "Where Rainbows Never Die" is one of my most favorite songs ever.  I never dreamed I'd see him on the CMAs - he's not pop sounding enough.  Download 'What are you listening to?' and the entire 'Traveler' album....they're awesome.  There's a song on Traveler - 'When the Stars Come Out' that I absolutely love.

Thanks! I'm definitely going to be looking him up, I loved his performance last night. If you missed it you should at least watch his performance with Justin on youtube. It was amazing. It was playing on my radio this morning too!

i also observed that the show itsself was very repsectful of the miranda and blake split.  there was no audiance panning of them until the end when they were running for awards.

I did have to check that out on youtube - I'm not a JT fan, but they killed it.  Outstanding performance by both of them.  Stapleton covers Tennessee Whiskey on Traveler.... <3

Chris Stapleton has been around for years on Texas Country Radio. YEARS.
I'm glad Nashville finally recognized a country artist.

I hadn't heard of Chris at all before last night.    I don't like that one guy who talks during his songs.  He needs to not be on country music radio.  Anyway, back in the 90's I always thought Brooks and Dunn were pretty rock n roll...lol!!  After seeing them last night with Reba, I sure miss them!! Wish people didn't have to get old!  They still rock it though!!

Just tossing this out there - if you want to hear artists like Chris Stapleton - there's an app for your phone under 95.9 The Ranch out of Fort Worth.  It's the only country station I'll listen to.....there will be no top 40 crap to suffer thru.

I used to listen to the Ranch when I lived in SW OK! My SO actually has the app you're talking about because he's from Dallas and was so upset about moving away from his TX radio stations when we moved to FL.
I grew up in TN just outside of Nashville, so I'm not nearly as opposed to listening to "Nashville country" as he is. I grew up on it.. Not a huge fan of some of the new stuff, but I don't mind just a little pop in my country. I know I'm the odd ball on here for that!
