No heat, but above the shoulder a knot that is causing discomfort. We have been rubbing with DMSO and Sore No More. Any suggestions? Would you suggest time off, vet visit or chiro/acupuncture?

Acupuncture!  My horse took a bad fall, hurt her neck/shoulder/back.  Had her acupunctured, on muscle relaxer, and put on her BOT sheet.  She has gotten a LOT of relief since then.

It may be a hematoma from a kick or something (will go away on its own). Have you thought about having it ultrasounded to see if its a muscle knot vs. hematoma? Muscle knots would benefit more from massage and acupuncture. Again, a hematoma can be cooled down but will generally go away on its own over time.

Thank you for all of your responses. This happened sometime Friday. There is no mark on her neck and no heat to bump. I had a equine message therapist work on her Saturday night. She thought it might take some time and a couple of sessions. Unfortunately, not much as changed from when the message was done. Was just looking for some suggestions, before I called the vet.
