| If you have a 4 year old which will soon to be 5 for next year. Would you hold out to 5 year old futurity or go ahead and Derby? She was entered at Fort Smith Last year & was drew out so she is eligible for Derby at Fort Smith..

Location: WI | I would futurity where you can still enter 5yo's and derby where you can't! You can do both, just not at the same race. |

| Agree, futurity to give the horse a relatively level playing field. Competing against other derby horses who have a year of seasoning under their belt could be a bit more challenging! |

| If she was not run at all in 2015, hold out for the month (until Dec 1, 2015) and futurity her. There are lots of 5 year old ones. You just can't run at Ft. Smith in the Futurity or any BFA futurities. The derbies are super tough so you wouldn't want to run those if it is your horse's first year of competition, unless that is your only option. |

Location: WI | Actually, I would say the futurities are every bit as tough as the derbies. Even tougher!

Location: Where I am happiest | A heck of alot more money added to the futurities then there is to debys. Plus alot of the 5 yr old futurities are 2D and the derbys are not. If you have a choice, futurity! |

The only 5 yr old futurities I know of in the Midwest are mostly side pots. All of the lucky dog futurity side pots are 5 yr old eligible. The panty raid has one. I think barrel bashes might be too. Not any actual 5 yr old futurities that I know of. I wish someone would have one. Diamonds & dirt, JL, & JB QHs are a couple of the bigger ones. |
