^ This, and also tie up your curb strap to your throatlatch |

Location: North Dakota | If the horse doesn't need curb pressure I like the goostree simplicity bits-if I want to add just a little bit of curb pressure I use a long piece of lacing leather and tie it gently under their jaw. |

I'm not using any curb on him at the moment - I do have a biothane and leather one I want to try on him, but I'm pretty sure I'll get the same response. It's just been too wet to ride lately |

Location: Duvall, WA | My mare is fussy about her face so I've tried lots of different things. What has ended up working best and I run her in now is a Goosetree double gag with NO curb strap at all. She is perfectly responsive in it but not as upset if I have to grab at her during a run. |

I wanted to try one of those as well. He's fine in the simplicity but we're just loping through, really emphasizing my body position and voice to cue to rate down and collect for the turn instead of just checking him with the reins. He'll get front endy and really choppy if you only check with your reins. It's worse with a curb strap. |

Location: North Dakota | Sounds to me like you need to do some rollbacks or spirals to get him to stay on his hind end. Horses that don't care for curb pressure in my opinion just need to get over it-sometimes just bitting them up for a few minutes a day helps a lot. Sounds strange but have you ever rode him in a stop and turn? I've found that it tends to get one over being touchy in a hurry - I don't think its a good bit to run barrels in however, I do road ditch ride my big guy with one and it has really made him less fussy about his head-when he used to be a mouth gaping freak-only horse I've ever rode that I put a hack on first to compete with and now am running him in a simplicity-I think his teeth really were a problem when we first got him and created a lot of issues with bits. |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | My horse was almost claustrophobic it felt like when it came to curbs but she was too strong to run without one and would shake her head in a turn with a chain or anything without it being tied up. When I tied my curbs up and found one she liked (leather or beaded from Dave Elliot) she is a different horse.
Kind of hard to see, but this is a solid bar curb from Dave Elliot tied to the throat latch with a leather shoe lace

| Happy to see this post...I have a horse that hates curb pressure also. Works perfect in pressure at home and slow work. I'm hoping to try a draw gag next that I found with a little shank to it. Will be looking at some of these other suggestions also. Thank you! |

| I am a big fan of the Clover Bit, they make it in all different mouthpieces. Its has a ton of diversity depending on how you use the rings. Bottom for lift, Middle for side-pull, you can attach a curb or not. Doesnt pinch. Runs $40 brand new. I really like it, I have one with a small port for my free runner who gets a little sore from curb pressure and starts to push against it.

Have two of these and like the heck out of them. One is a chain mouth piece and I have a dog bone. Super little bits |

This was going to be my question. Will your horse stop without a curb? If so take the curb off. |
