My horse had cut his leg on Saturday and was perfectly fine until a few hours ago. Can't put any weight on the leg and he is sweating bullets.... Please say a prayer for him, we are headed to the vet now.

No meds.. We had been wrapping it and cleaning it good and he was running around 100% sound on Saturday when it happened. We've kept him up and thought he was on the mend. But today it took a turn for the worst. The cut was right on the left side of his left knee and I should have known better than to think it was just a scrape. Whatever he cut himself on went stright through the joint and must have been pretty sharp because its a clean hole. Right now im just thankful we didn't have to immediatley put him down. We have about 25% chance of recovery. Im just sick about the whole thing.. I just wish I had brought him in right when it happened

With joint infections

Have the vet do a minimum 4 litre flush of the joint, this flushes out most of the bacteria, most of the proteins that cause cellular degeneration, and reduces inflammation.

have the vet inject an antibiotic directly into the joint leave it there a few days.

Then complete another flush, then inject only HA into the joint.

While doing this Iv antibiotics, antiinflammtories

I had a horse who had 2 infected joints from a **** poor vet, my vet was out of the country for 2 weeks, and we did the above when he returned and the horse came back as sound as before (no drugs injections every 3-6 months, no lamness, could pass flexion tests)

Do you have anyone near you that has a laser?  I would also start using PHT magna cu wraps.  One of the benefits is that copper is good where there is infections.
