Love my round bale feeder more than words can say.  My horses are just finishing their first bale from it.
Here's my question.  What do you do as the horses get down to the worst parts of the bale? When the net is still plenty full (shaped like a fat frizbee on the ground at this point) Still to heavy for me to really maneuver but probably 85% gone.  I worry they won't / shouldn't eat what's left, or that they are hungry, etc.  I also know you aren't supposed to let them go totally empty anyway --- do you get to a point where you dump it and start fresh or?

Thanks!

We always remove the outside shell (3-4" which usually is the bad part of the round bale) before putting it into the net.  That way all of the hay that's in the net, is all fresh & good.
We put our netted bales in a ring, and we do make them clean up.  There's seldom more than a couple of handfulls of stems left in the nets when we go to put a new bale in.

Thanks!
Ya, they are not bad bales by any means but it seems no matter how perfect a round bale is theres always parts they pick around.
I best let them keep working on it, but I'll probably have to "waste" some so it doesn't sit empty on the ground before I fill it again.  I was just curious what other people do.  Since mine isn't in a feeder and it's relatively flat i've seen them STANDING  on it (Lord
) But it's sturdy as can be and they don't have shoes on, so whatever I guess.

I use the round bale nets on my covered 3x3's.  They eat every last bit as there isnt any bad spots.  So I can't offer any advice
