| I have always used wool cinches... it be felt or the fluffy ones. I switched to the air flex cinch due to the ease of cleaning since I ride multiple horses. I really like the air flex cinch because it is not neoprene but yet super easy to clean. However, I have been seeig some info on the new shoulder relief cinch... https://totalsaddlefit.com/cinch/ . They come in wool or neoprene. I am spoiled now that I have been using the air flex cinch because of its ease of cleaning, it makes me not want to go back to wool. Anways I am now thinking how bad is the neoprene? I know some horses can be sensitive to it. Mine seem to be ok BUT it also does not breath very well.... What are your thoughts on neoprene cinches???

| Neoprene has no give/expansion nor does it allow any air to infiltrate. Wool cinches give/stretch some plus they do allow some air movement. |

| I have an AirFlex and loved it until the summer months when it squeaked like no body's business during the super hot months. I have a weaver felt smart cinch now, that I don't love because it gets really stiff when it gets sweaty. I've really been interested in the feather one, but it's really smooth, which looks nice, but I wonder if it slips? |

Location: MD | I have classic equine soft touch cinches (neoprene). I have had others but always seem to go back to that one. Second favorite is the Y cinch by 5 Star.

| I've had one horse that was allergic, and I rubbed him raw in a matter of hours. It was really weird, and I felt terrible. That's one out of the last 15 years of horses. I found neoprene cinches when the mohair cinch I was using was chewing holes in everything I was riding. It was hanging in the tack room and I snagged it. Used it nearly to death. I think to use mohair or synthetics, you should probably replace them regularly, which I don't like spending the cash.
I, as a whole, love neoprene cinches, they're all I use, plus they live a really long time. I prefer the roper style VenTech by Professionals Choice, since it breathes and has such a wide web of support. If you ever want to do an experiment, lay your cinches on the floor, and walk on them barefoot. The neoprene cinch, you can't feel the buckles or straps. The others are all pretty hard.
I also like that I don't have to tighten my girths nearly so much. I just really couldn't find to many cons to them, but that's just what works for me. |

I was looking at the y cinch. I am really interested in that too! If I remember right, back in the day they used to make fleece Y or K cinches. The only ones I can find now are mohair.... |

I never had any problems with my neoprene cinches either and I have been using them for over 20 years.

As soon as I get a loose strand on mine, I replace them. I don't know why, but I tend to go through them - maybe one a year per horse but you have to realize I don't ride a whole lot so they really don't last too long for me. I buy the roper-type from NRS. |

Yeah mine is a mohair in the natural color. I like it but the back cinch is so far forward it's right where your heel sits or atleast it does on mine. I would imagine a spur would get hung in it. |

Location: Southern Indiana | I used to use the neoprene and switched to mohair/alpaca cinched and never looked back. I almost can't stand to use a big clunky cinch anymore. I still have a couple of the classic equine soft touch cinches and will use them on occasion. I never had any issues, I just prefer the mohair. Their light weight and they stretch so I know my horses will be more comfortable. |

| I have always used leather latigos and billets with the air flex cinch, a wool felt cinch with the nylon web backing or any neoprene like cinch. I have heard to use nylon latigos and billets with mohair cinches since you get the stretch from the mohair... like when you use other cinches you get the stretch from the leather billets and latigos. What do you mohair people use for for billets and latigos? I have never used mohair but now they intigue me. lol |

I've also used neoprene cinches for years with no problems. I recently switched from very flat neoprene to the soft touch (padded) neoprene, and love them. I ride them on many different horses and have never had one break out or be uncomfortable in one. I think they are way more sanitary than other cinches, since you can completely clean them after each ride very easily. They don't stay wet, don't stink and don't build up dirt or germs, etc.

| My horses have never had a problem with neoprene. I like that I can rinse off with each ride, and it is the only cinch I can use that my saddle wont slip off with! I use the roper (wider) style and try never to go too tight unless when making a run...I am too scared with the other cinches that my saddle would slip during a quick turn! |
